CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION TWO PREVIEW: Wren hope to take flight against GRFC

WITH no win in five, Carl Murray’s Wren FC are stuck at the bottom of the Division Two table.

But this weekend will give them a good chance of picking up their first points of the season when they host GRFC who, after winning their first game of the season, have managed just one other success - a 4-1 win over the Wren in the WG Parr Trophy.

Revenge would be sweet for Wren, but they will need to tighten things up at the back if they are to conjure up something special.

Goatacre CC have made a promising start to life in the division. The villagers are unbeaten in four and this week will see them lock horns with a Sutton Benger side who beat them 2-0 in the Knockout Cup in September.

Benger could still be smarting from last week's surprise Parr Trophy exit so this may not be a good time to face them as they will want an immediate return to winning ways.

The game could produce a classic and like their earlier cup clash which finished all-square after 90 minutes this one could go the same way with the points being shared.

With just one win from their opening five league matches and with an ever-increasing injury list, Kings Arms (All Cannings) find themselves at the wrong end of the table.

The visit of White Horse is unlikely to provide any respite from their current woes.

Kings Arms won both meetings between the sides last term but this new look White Horse side ought to take victory in this encounter to keep them at the business end of things.

Somerford needed their victory over Wren FC last weekend to get their promotion challenge back on track and they will be hoping to build on that success when they host a Southwick Wanderers side who have yet to win this season.

With Chippenham West End in cup action, Somerford know that a victory would move them into second spot, so with that as an incentive the hosts should heap more misery on their guests, whose wait for their first win of the season is likely to go on for another week at least.

Aaron Latchem’s table-topping Staverton side will welcome Miller Sports to their Atworth home.

Staverton will go into the game as favourites for victory but, after Miller’s excellent cup win over Sutton Benger last weekend, they had better not take their guests too lightly.
