TONY Gilbert claimed victory at the Wilts Angling Evening Open match at Rood Ashton last Thursday.
The Melksham man hooked 104 lb of carp to finish in front of Pete Neate, from Holt, (80 lb). Ian Willetts, from Bradford, was third with 67 lb.
Other placings: 4. Mark Poppleton Trowbridge 62 lb 0 oz; 5. John Atkins Trowbridge 51 lb 0 oz; 6. Darren Fletcher Melksham 49 lb 0 oz.
LAST Friday’s Airsprung Evening match on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Tithe Bran was won by Chris Oliver, from Trowbridge, with 7 lb 12 oz of roach and skimmers.
There was a tie for second between Robin Guy, from Melksham, and Dave Morrison, from Trowbridge.
Other placings: 4. Alan Hillier Westbury 5 lb 2 oz; 5. Vic Abbott Bradford 3 lb 10 oz; 6. Mick Withy Westbury 3 lb 9 oz.
SATURDAY’S Blue Circle Open saw Neate chalk up a win with 92 lb of carp. Guy was second with 71 lb and John Gardner, from Chippenham, third with 51 lb.
THE Foxhanger stretch of the Kennet & Avon Canal was in terrific form for Sunday’s Wilts Angling Open as Willetts reeled in 45 lb 10 oz of bream.
Kevin Rowles, from Devizes, was a close runner up with 43 lb 6 oz taken of bream and skimmers, Melksham’s Steve Saunders next with 21 lb 8 oz of bream and skimmers.
Other placings: 4. Pete Neate Holt 20 lb 14 oz; 5. Vic Abbott Bradford 17 lb 0 oz; 6. Jim Butcher Bradford 16 lb 7 oz.
SUNDAY’S Airsprung match at Leech Pool saw Frome’s Richard Whitmarsh take top prize with 135 lb of carp.
A distant second was Tom Ince, from Trowbridge, with 86 lb of carp, followed by Steve Southern, from Trowbridge, with 57 lb 12 oz.
Other placings: 4. Bill Turner Trowbridge 55 lb 12 oz; 5. Kevin Hanson Trowbridge 31 lb 12 oz; 6. Andrew Fox Trowbridge 24 lb 4 oz.
