FISH proved hard to tempt on a wet and windy day for Sunday’s Airsprung match on the Bristol Avon at Barton Farm.
Patrick Jay, from Trowbridge, won with 6 lb 14 oz of roach and perch, followed by Steve Southern, from Trowbridge, with 4 lb 10 oz of chub and roach.
Bill Turner, from Trowbridge, was third with 3 lb 4 oz of roach.
Other placings: 4. Dean Adams Bradford 3 lb 3 oz; 5. Paul Jones Melksham 3 lb 0 oz; 6. Steve Green Trowbridge 2 lb 14 oz.
A WET day at Rood Ashton on Sunday saw the Wilts Angling Open match go to Stuart White, of Chippenham, with 137 lb of carp.
Pete Neate, from Holt, clinched second prize with 82 lb 12 oz of carp and Dave Bancroft, from Trowbridge, was third prize with 74 lb 8 oz of carp.
Other placings: 4. Richard Brimble Westbury 62 lb 10 oz; 5. John Gardner Chippenham 59 lb 2 oz; 6. Jim Butcher Bradford 48 lb 8 oz.
THE first round of the South West Winter League on the Bristol Avon at Swineford and Keynsham was onw by the Maver Bathampton team honours with 37 points followed by Preston Innovation Thatchers (36) and Sensas Thyers (31).
Mark Broomsgrove, of Sensas Thyers, was top individual with 18 lb 3 oz of roach, followed by Mark Harper, of Preston Innovation Thatchers, with 17 lb 13 oz of bream and roach. Paul Purchase, of Sensas Thyers, was third with 17 lb 1 oz of roach and skimmer.
Other placings: 4. Richard Whitmarsh Sensas Wiltshire Angling 16 lb 1 oz; 5. Sean Townsend Maver Bathampton and Nathaniel Johnson Preston Innovation Thatchers 15 lb 9 oz.
SUNDAY’S Chippenham and Avon Open Pairs match on the Bristol Avon at Chippenham and Melksham was won by Troy Weaver, of Daiwa Gordon League, with 16 lb 15 oz of roach and perch.
Kevin Rowles, from Devizes, pushed him all the way to finish a close runner up with 16 lb 6 oz of chub.
Jamie Cox, of Garbolino BVMG, was third with 14 lb 4 oz of roach, perch and small chub.
The pairs prize went to Weaver and John Gaylard, of Daiwa Gordon League, with three points.
Other placings: 4. Jim Edwards Chippenham 11 lb 8 oz; 5. Andy Powell Lobbys 10 lb 10 oz; 6. Dave Johnson Calne 10 lb 8 oz.
