ANGLING clubs’ Christmas events get under way this weekend, with Avon AC holding its match on the Bristol Avon at Melksham tomorrow.
On Sunday, Chippenham stage their event on the Bristol Avon at Chippenham and Lavington AC hold their match at the Cheverell complex.
Trowbridge Seniors hold their match at Leech Pool on Tuesday, with Calne at Hazeland, Wilts Angling on the Bristol Avon at Melksham next Sunday.
Trowbridge will hold its match on Sunday, December 20 on the Bristol Avon at Staverton.
TUESDAY’S Trowbridge Seniors match at Merritts Lake was won by Melksham’s Tony Brack with 31 lb of carp and skimmers.
John Blackmore, from Lavington, was second with 28 lb of carp, skimmers and roach, followed by Barry Oakford, from Trowbridge, with 27 lb of carp, skimmers and roach.
Other placings: 4. Ken Gingell Trowbridge 22 lb 12 oz; 5. Brian Ellis Melksham 21 lb; 6. Ernie Jones Trowbridge 20 lb 14 oz.
THE Airsprung Christmas match was fished in blustery conditions on Sunday on the Kennet & Avon canal at Airsprung, Andy Fox from Hilperton winning with with 6 lb 12 oz of roach and skimmers.
Tom Ince, from Trowbridge, was next with 5 lb 1 oz of roach and skimmers, with Dave Wareham, from Trowbridge, third with 4 lb 11 oz of roach and skimmers.
Other placings: 4. Kevin Hanson Trowbridge 4 lb 4 oz 8 dm; 5. Dean Adams Bradford 3 lb 13 oz; 6. Bill Turner Trowbridge 3 lb 9 oz.
SUNDAY’S Wilts Angling Open match at Shearwater went to Andy Pritchard, from Westbury, with 93 lb of bream.
Paul Gunning, from Trowbridge, took runner up spot with 91 lb 2 oz of bream, followed by Ian Willetts, from Bradford, with 74 lb 6 oz of bream.
Other placings: 4. Robin Guy Melksham 73 lb 12 oz; 5. Mick Gunning Trowbridge 48 lb 4 oz; 6. Jim Butcher Bradford 47 lb 4 oz.
