ANGLING: Gilbert bags Ashton triumph

TONY Gilbert, from Melksham, chalked up another fine win at the Wilts Angling Thursday evening match at Rood Ashton with 123lb 2oz of carp.

Gary Etheridge, from Devizes, was next with 115lb of carp, followed by Mark Poppleton, from Trowbridge, with 82lb.

Other placings: 4. Kevin Rowles Devizes 74lb; 5. Darren Fordham Devizes 58lb 4oz; 6. John Atkins Trowbridge 51lb 4oz.

FISH proved harder to tempt in the Airsprung Evening match on Friday on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Moulton Drive.

Richard Whitmarsh, from Frome, won top prize with 5lb 10oz of roach and skimmer, followed by Dean Adams, from Bradford, with 1lb 12oz of roach and skimmer. Robin Guy, from Melksham, was third with 1lb 10oz of roach and skimmer.

Other placings: 4. Dave Stone Trowbridge 1lb 2oz; 5. Alan Hillier Westbury 14oz; 6. Andy Fox Trowbridge 8oz.

HOME matchman Dave Allen clinched Saturday’s Frome Victorians match at Todber Manor with 104lb 3oz of carp.

Other placings: 2. Robbie Birch, Street, 100lb 8oz; 3. Steve King, Frome, 99lb 9oz; 4. Jamie Stevens Street 84lb 12oz; 5. Martin Western Shepton Mallet 81lb 15oz; 6. Phil Baskerville Frome 66lb 13oz.

ALAN Southern of Trowbridge took top honours in Sunday’s Airsprung match on the Kennet & Avon Canal’s Beehive stretch with 9lb 10oz of roach and skimmer.

Dave Stone, of Trowbridge, was runner up with 8lb 15oz, followed by Richard Whitmarsh, of Frome, with 5lb 1oz.

Other placings: 4. Dean Adams Bradford 4lb 8oz; 5. Vic Abbott Bradford 3lb 15oz 8dm; 6. Andy Fox Trowbridge 1lb 9oz 8dm.

TODBER Manor again produced good sport for Sunday’s Wilts Angling Open match as Yeovil’s Steve Tucker took 179lb of carp to win.

Tony Gilbert, from Melksham, was next with 151 lb 14 oz, followed by Nigel White, from Yeovil, with 142 lb 12 oz.

Other placings: 4. Chris Higgins Yeovil 135lb 14oz; 5. Fred Cousins Yeovil 131lb 12oz; 6. Pete Neate Holt 123lb.
