ANGLING: Grant comes up with the goods at Staverton

HOME matchman Kevin Grant took advantage of bream feeding well on the Bristol Avon at Staverton to win last week’s Trowbridge match.
His bream and perch catch weighed 34 lb 7 oz to leave him ahead of Gerald Lugg, from Beckington, took runners up spot with 26 lb 11oz of skimmers and perch, followed by Dave Baker from Trowbridge with 21 lb 5 oz of bream and roach.
Other placings: 4. Pete Mills Chippenham 19 lb 6 oz; 5. Pete Zimiak Trowbridge 14 lb 2 oz; 6. Mick Gunning Trowbridge 9 lb 4 oz.
A FLOODED Bristol Avon at Chippenham still provided ample roach catches as Mick Gale, of Chippenham, won with 10 lb 8 oz.
Melksham’s Andy Pratten was runner up with 6 lb 14 oz of roach, followed by Alex Hyde, of Chippenham, with 5 lb 15 oz of bream and roach.
Other placings: 4. Kevin Williams Chippenham 5 lb 3 oz; 5. Steve Palmer Chippenham 5 lb 0 oz; 6. Mark Wooldridge Chippenham 4 lb 14 oz.
THE Bristol Avon at Melksham was in better order for the Tuesday Evening Avon match as Mike Withey, from Westbury, took 27 lb 11 oz of bream for the win.
Robin Guy of Melksham was runner up with 25 lb 2 oz of bream and roach with Colin Gittings, of Chippenham, third with a similar catch weighing 16 lb 5 oz.
Other placings: 4. Bob Ryan Melksham 13 lb 11 oz; 5. Kevin Rowell Devizes 10 lb 0 oz; 6. Andy Pratten Melksham 5 lb 0 oz.
SIMON Fear, of Calne, clinched the Tuesday Calne evening match with just 3 lb 6 oz of roach and gudgeon .
Martin Dolman, of Calne, was runner up with 3 lb 2 oz of chub and dace, followed by Gary Dodson, of Calne, with 2 lb 7 oz of perch, dace and gudgeon.
Other placings: 4. Nigel Smith Calne 2 lb 1 oz; 5. Nick Lofy Calne 1 lb 7 oz; 6. Matthew Riches Calne 7 oz.
THERE was a close result at the Wednesday Trowbridge Open match on the Bristol Avon at Staverton as Colin Gittings of Chippenham took 12 lb 9 oz of roach and hybrids to win.
Pete Mills, from Chippenham, pushed him all the way with 12 lb 7 oz of roach and hybrids while Westbury’s Alan Hillier was third with 8 lb 3 oz.
Other placings: 4. Gary Etheridge Devizes 5 lb 13 oz; 5. Pete Zimiak Trowbridge 4 lb 0 oz; 6. Dave Baker Trowbridge 1 lb 3 oz.
HOLT’S Pete Neate clinched the Thursday Wilts Angling Open match at Rood Ashton with 75 lb of carp.
Tony Gilbert, from Melksham, was next with 57 lb 12 oz of carp, followed by Ian Willetts, from Bradford, with 33 lb.
Other placings: 4. Terry Fell Devizes 28 lb 0 oz; 5. Richard Brimble Westbury 27 lb 0 oz.
SUNDAY’S Chippenham match on the Bristol Avon saw local man Dennis Baker carry off top prize with 14 lb 12 oz of chub and roach.
Ian Liddell, of Chippenham, was second with 13 lb 15 oz of perch and chub, with Liam Lathbury, of Chippenham, third with 12 lb 2 oz 8 dm of chub.
Other placings: 4. Andy Pratten Melksham 11 lb b3 oz; 5. Pete Samuel 11 lb 0 oz; 6. Sean Belcher Calne 10 lb 5 oz.
SUNDAY’S Lavington match at Ellis Lake went to Graham Pearce with 54 lb 14 oz of carp, followed by Ray Sheridan, from Devizes, with 47 lb 4 oz.
Jim Escott, from Melksham, was third with 25 lb of carp, roach and goldfish.
Other placings: 4. Tony McCarthy Marlborough 23 lb 12 oz; 5. Stan Keates Winsley 22 lb 12 oz; 6. Ray King Devizes 20 lb 6 oz.
CHIPPENHAM’S Stuart White carried off top prize at the Crookwood Lake match on Sunday with 24 lb 8 oz of bream and skimmers.
Rob Kepner, from Melksham, was runner up spot with 20 lb 4 oz of bream and skimmer and Holt’s Pete Neate third with 13 lb 8 oz of carp and skimmer.
Other placings: 4. Robin Guy Melksham 8 lb 4 oz; 5. Sean Rhodes Trowbridge 8 lb 4 oz; 6. Pete Whitton Staverton 4 lb 0 oz.
SUNDAY’S Airsprung Open match at Barton Farm on Sunday attracted a good entry for practice for the forthcoming National Championships.
Top honours went to Richard Tomala of Garbolino Blackmore Vale MG with 11 lb 10 oz of roach and hybrids, followed by Dave Mawby, of Wellingborough Nene, with 7 lb 13 oz of roach and skimmers.
Kevin Abigail, of Devizes, was third with 7 lb 6 oz of bream, roach and eel.
Other placings: 4. Pete Bufton Wellingborough Nene 7 lb 2 oz; 5. Richard Chave Garbolino Blackmore Vale MG 4 lb 0 oz; 6. Steve Nadden Garbolino Blackmore Vale MG 4 lb 3 oz.
