BATH'S Matt Garvey says there would be no better way to get over their disappointing European Champions Cup exit than by toppling three-time winners Toulon.

A 25-11 defeat at already-eliminated Leinster in Dublin last weekend ensured Bath cannot progress from the pool stages with one game still to go.

That is at home to the current kings of continental rugby Toulon on Saturday, and flanker Garvey reckons a victory over the French giants at The Rec would have a galvanising effect on Bath for the remainder of the season.

“They are a huge team and the players are really up for it - it’s the other games we need to get up for,” said Garvey.

“We are out of the competition but we need to get back to winning ways. If we can beat Toulon at The Rec, that can kick-start our season.

“That’s what the boys have been talking about and there’s been a good feel in training ahead of it.

“Something we have looked at is how Leinster were hungrier than us. They were out of the competition but still had the desire and motivation to go out and win and that’s something we have to try to replicate if we can.

“We have got a lot still to play for. We got to the Premiership final last year and this year, we want to go one better. We think we can still do it as there are a lot of games to be played and points to be won.”

After losing his place in the back-row to Sam Burgess in the second half of last season, Garvey has reclaimed his spot in 2015-16 and no Bath player has played more minutes this term.

Garvey added: “I’ve played quite a few games already and got a lot of minutes in the tank.

“It’s great to be back in the starting team and I’m enjoying being part of the changing room again on matchdays but I would trade that for a few more wins.

“Playing on a regular basis is what you want to do but the most important thing is the team winning and we haven’t done that as much as we would like this season.”
