TOM Ellis says there is no chance of the prospect of mouth-watering matches ahead distracting Bath from the task at hand against Worcester Warriors this weekend.

Last Saturday, Bath kept their chances of a top-four finish in the Aviva Premiership alive with victory over fierce rivals Leicester Tigers in ‘The Clash’ at Twickenham, while next weekend they are travel to Stade Francais for the European Challenge Cup semi-finals.

Before that, though, Todd Blackadder’s side must continue to build their Premiership play-off credentials by beating second-from-bottom Worcester on the road.

Although the glamour may not be the same up at Sixways as it could be in the coming weeks, flanker Ellis feels the result is just as vital.

“If we had lost that game against Leicester it would have been very hard for us to finish in the top four but now we 100 per cent believe we can still achieve it,” said Ellis.

“We have had a couple of wins, we have a semi-final next weekend and before that we have Worcester this weekend.

“We have some big games coming up so it could still be a very exciting game for us.

“It’s one week at a time, like it is for any club. We can’t afford to look beyond Worcester, they are our only focus right now.

“That’s when you start to let your performance slip or you are more likely to get injured, if you are not totally focussed on the game at hand.

“Worcester are a very difficult team to play and I think they are doing better than their league position suggests.

“They are a big, powerful pack and are excellent in the scrum and at the line-out. We have got to win the game up front, first and foremost.”

Bath had to recover from a poor start at Twickenham, going 12-0 down to Leicester early on, and they were still 21-13 in arrears with 14 minutes to go.

However, two late tries from England winger Anthony Watson saw them roar back to triumph 27-21 and Ellis was delighted to finish on top after months of anticipation ahead of the game at the home of English rugby.

“After all the build-up, it was nice to just get out there and play,” said 22-year-old Ellis.

“So many fans were there and there has been a lot of great work from the marketing department so it was nice to deliver a win for them.

“It was a bit of a slow start but I wouldn’t say it was anything to do with the occasion of the atmosphere, we have got a lot of players who are used to playing under pressure in big games.

“Credit to Leicester, they came out of the blocks flying and put us under pressure.”
