BATH director of rugby Todd Blackadder rued his side's indiscipline as they slipped to a 20-5 defeat at Harlequins in the Aviva Premiership today.

In a match moved from Friday night due to the cold weather, tries from Tim Visser and Kyle Sinckler allowed Quins to put an end to a four-match losing streak in the league and dented Bath's own play-off hopes.

Bath opened the scoring through an unconverted try by Matt Banahan before Visser's intercept score gave Harlequins a lead they never relinquished.

Demetri Catrakilis kicked a penalty on his first start since September before Sinckler crashed over while Bath's Max Lahiff was in the sin bin to increase the gap.

Blackadder said: "In the first half, defensively I thought we were outstanding and didn't really get a reward for the hard work we put in.

"Then obviously it was just discipline that killed us again and that's where I talk about the deja vu moments.

"I thought we defended very well and didn't need to give those cheap, easy outs away and then when we got the ball we just did the same and compounded our errors.

"We just didn't play within our structure, at times.

"At times we looked really good and then when we got our structure in place we looked brilliant, and then at times we looked like we were playing off the cuff and those offloads just didn't stick today.

"It was just one of those games where we had a lot of our opportunities early and could have put Quins under a lot more pressure, but we didn't take those chances."

Harlequins director of rugby John Kingston was relieved to see his side record their first Aviva Premiership victory of 2018.

After getting themselves in front, the hosts deserved credit for the way they prevented Bath from getting back into the game, as the visitors' play-off hopes were dealt a big blow.

Kingston said: "There's some relief after what's gone on in the last two or three weeks where, for a variety of reasons, we haven't performed the way we want to.

"There's pride in the way that the guys have reacted to the adversity of the recent weeks.

"It's very easy to be positive when things are going your way - when things are not, you've got to be quite strong and resilient and I've just told them I've been hugely impressed and proud of the way they've gone about things.

"This week wasn't easy - it wasn't easy for Bath either - but (there were) lots and lots of different things that they've worked to take themselves through.

"Hopefully that will stand us in good stead, but our challenge is to try and get some momentum back into our season and to give us momentum going forward over the course of next year and beyond."
