GRAHAM Shadwell has been recalled to the England senior international bowls team, writes DAVE EATON.

The Spencer Moulton player and winner of this year’s national triples championship title together with club colleagues Andy Colebrooke and Russell Francis at Royal Leamington Spa last month, will feature again for England in the 2015 Home International Series.

Trowbridge's Shadwell successfully came through last weekend’s England Senior Internationals trials held at Leamington and was chosen for next year’s team to play in Hamilton, Scotland on June 27-28.

A double world championship medallist in 2008 and 2012 and a bronze medallist at the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Dehli, Shadwell had been a regular in the England side from 2001 except for 2004 when he had to withdraw due to a back injury until this season.

But in 2014 he opted out of international selection for England and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow owing to personal reasons but will be back again representing England in 2015.

He has been chosen at lead in a rink that also comprises of Louis Ridout (Ilminster, Somerset) at two, Chris Yeomans (Northumberland) at three with the re-called David Bolt (Durham), the national four wood singles champion in 2011, at skip.

Andy Colerooke and Russell Francis who shared in the Leamington national triples championship success also attended the England trials last weekend although both were originally non-travelling reserves.

The former played at lead in two trial games but unfortunately Francis did not get on the green.

“I had a good trial,” said Colebrooke, “ and I was well pleased with my performance in both games.

“I was not expecting to get in the England team as you have to prove yourself over a period of time.

“Hopefully this will stand me in good stead for next year and the three of us can do well when playing in the British Isles Bowls Council Championships in the triples competition as English champions in Scotland just prior to the International Series.

“A good performance in that will help me get another trial,” he added.
