NORTH WILTS Ladies march on in this season’s Yetton Trophy (women’s national inter-club championship).

Winners of the trophy six years ago, the Westcroft-based Chippenham side followed up a ten-shot win over Thornbury in the first round with a majestic 25-shot second-round success over Clarrie Dunbar last Saturday, taking the honours on three of the four rinks.

Fizz Mace’s quartet led the way for North Wilts ladies side, winning their match 32-10, while Alex Jacobs rink won by six shots and Sue Cooke’s foursome edged home by a single shot, although Janet Hardie’s four went down by four shots.

North Wilts made all the running leading across the board 21-17 at five ends and 40-30 at ten. Then they pulled right away to move 66-42 up at 15 ends and extend that margin to 82-43 after 18.

However, on the run-in North Wilts appeared to take their foot off the pedal with Clarrie Dunbar able to cut the final deficit from 39 shots to only 25.

North Wilts Ladies progress to round three and will play Bristol on Saturday, November 22.
