ANDY Moore, a losing national indoor triples championship finalist two seasons ago, is the first Wiltshire player to book his place in the final stages of a competition this season.

The Christie Miller ace is through to the last 16 and final stages of the Champion of Champions competition due to be played at Warner Leisure, Hayling Island from January 30-February 1.

His first game is against Paul Hartley (Hartlepool) on January 30 (8pm).

Moore booked his place at Hayling Island with a 21-17 victory over Area 29 winner Steve Hooper (Watchet) in the inter-area final.

Previously, Moore had beaten Barry Barry (Bristol) 21-12, Andy Colebrooke (Clarrie Dunbar) 21-15 and Mark Woods (Clevedon) 21-13 in the Area 30 final to set-up the inter-area match with Hooper.

In other Area 30 competitions, Moore and Graham Shadwell (C Dunbar) are through to the area singles semi-finals, Andy Colebrooke and Russell Francis (Clarrie D) have reached the area 30 pairs semi-finals, while Colebrooke, Dale Taylor and Terry Perkins have qualified for the semis in the triples.

The fours has only reached the quarter-final stages.

Clarrie Dunbar’s Keith Bailey is through to two Area 30 finals - Over 50s triples and mixed pairs - the latter against Ros Contast (Bristol) to be played by January 4 but the triples against Bob Johnson (Bristol) is not until January 18.

In the mixed fours, the Clarrie quartet comprising of Debbie Shadwell, Kim Smith, Andy Colebrooke and Russell Francis (sub Graham Shadwell) have won the area 30 final.

They beat Gary Jay (Clevedon) 22-18 in the final last week and move forward to the inter-area final against the Area 29 winners when known - just one match away from a place at Lincoln & District in the last 16 and final stages in late February.

Meanwhile, Christie Miller’s Sheila Garlick and her triple edged home 17-16 against Cynthia Winter-Alsop in the semi-finals of the O50s two wood triples and now face Alex Jacobs trio from North Wilts by January 18.

Clarrie Dunbar teams are also still running in two national competitions and Christie Miller in one.

Clarrie booked their place in the last 32 of the Mason Trophy, ladies O60s double rinks last week with a 33-30 win over Thornbury and now meet Taunton Deane in round four by January 16.

And on Sunday Dunbar recorded an extremely comfortable 93-55 fourth round Egham Trophy win over Taunton Deane to book a last 16 place in the national inter-club mixed championship against the star spangled Devon side Torquay United on Sunday, January 11.
