THE DYNAMIC duo of Sue Cooke and Alex Jacob are still on course to add to their national indoor championship title haul after recording a quartet of important victories last week.

Winners of the ladies national pairs championship in 2010 and national fours title with Carole Grenfell and Janet Hardie in 2008, the duo won four Area 30 finals in quick succession.

They kicked off their fine run of success, with Jean Collier as lead, by winning the Area 30 final in the Over 50s two wood triples defeating Christie Miller trio Wendy Gaisford, Bev Lilley and Sheila Garlick 20-12 on the green at Christie Miller Leisure Centre, Melksham.

They now face an inter-area final against the area 29 winners Angela Thompson (Ilminister) for a last 16 place on or before February 8.

Last Friday, Cooke and Jacobs, with Molly Manning leading and Janet Hardie at two, won the Area 30 fours final at home at North Wilts, beating Clevedon’s Sheila Short, Jacqui Branfield, and England internationals Laura Holden and Stefanie Branfield 26-17 to book an inter-area final against either Kirsty Hembrow (Taunton Deane) or Ann Campbell (St Andrews WSM).

A day later at home, the duo and Janet Hardie thumped Margaret Collins, Ros Constant and Shirley Logan (Bristol) 23-6 in the triples to progress to the inter-area final versus either K Hembrow (Taunton Deane) or Judy Forse (St Andrews, WSM) on or before February 15.

And on Tuesday, they took the Area 30 pairs crown again, defeating their Holden and Stefanie Branfield (Clevedon) on their own green in Somerset in a dramatic final that went to the last end.

Cooke and Jacobs were four shots down 21-17 going into the 21st end needing a four to force an extra end and a five to win.

Skip Jacobs with her first wood took the jack into the ditch to give her and Cooke a count of two and then drew two more shots and with the help of a measure collected the five they needed to pull-off a dramatic 22-21 last gasp last end victory. .

They will now play Victoria or Ilminster in the inter-area final by Feb 15.

Jacobs and Cooke had won the area 30 pairs championship four times in the previous five years and gone on to reach the final stages each time taking the national title in 2010.

On the way to those previous four area 30 pairs titles they have beaten England Internationals Laura Holden and Stefanie Branfield (Cleveland) twice 25-21 in 2010 and 20-10 in 2014 and now have made it three.

Meanwhile, the North Wilts club are seeking to increase their membership.
