HOLT are through to the Dorset/Wilts final in the National Top Club competition against Poole Park, writes DAVE EATON.

They booked their place in the final after an extremely tight fourth round tie and 3-2 victory over Chippenham Town.

Keith Bailey beat Paul MacDonald 21-14 in the singles after being 9-4 down early on.

However, Craig Doughty lost the two wood singles against Rob Clews, while Kevin Rowdon and Justin Davis lost the pairs match to Chippenham duo Jeremy Haselton and Steve Heseltine.

Meanwhile Wayne Simmonds, Wayne Snook and Ben Gadd won the triples against Chippenham’s Alan Stell, Luke Meehan and Richard Gainey 22-13.

The Holt fours team of Rodney Summers, Martin and Kevin Oliver plus Don Gray won 21-20 after an extra end.

Chippenham’s foursome of Mike Savin Dave Williams, Willie Jones and Neil Connor picked up shot on the 21st and last end to tie the game 20-20 and take the match into an extra end.

This proved to be the pivotal game for Holt as they were already 2-1 down on aggregate after the losses in both the two wood singles and pairs.

Holt now play Poole Park on Sunday at Poole Park (6pm).

If they are successful against Poole Park they would then have to play a last 16 playoff match against the Hampshire/IOW section winner for a quarter final place at Leamington in mid September.

That was the stage Holt reached last year at Leamington when they lost narrowly to Camberley 3-2 in the quarter-finals.

Holt make one change for the match on Sunday against Poole Park as triples skip Ben Gadd is unavailable.

They bring in Tony Keating to play the two wood singles and switch some of the other pairings around.
