CHIPPENHAM Town have won the Wiltshire ladies county fours title for the first time in the club’s history.

The foursome of Irene Button (subbing for Barbara Shepheard), Jan Boden, Viv Baskerville and skip Barbara Land scored a single on the last end to secure a last-gasp one-shot win (22-21) over Alderbury at the Wiltshire Ladies finals day at Devizes last Saturday.

They lifted the crown for the first time since the county women’s championships were first introduced in 1947, having finishing as runners-up in 1962 and 64.

The all-Wootton Bassett U25 junior singles final saw holder Lucy Smith maintain her outdoor superiority over younger sister Katy, 18 with a 23-8 success on the 20th end.

It was the 20 year old's fourth U25 win in the last five county junior singles finals and completed a straight hat-trick of victories.

Box secretary and county player Jean Collier recorded a singles double as she won the four and two wood singles for the first time.

A 21-7 success against Chris Mitchell (Purton) in the four wood was followed by a close 16-11 triumph over club colleague Sue Cooke, the holder, in the two wood event.

Collier missed out on a hat-trick of titles as her team were beaten in the triples final 15-12 by Stratton Churchway, skipped by Janet Willis.

Churchway had seen earlier in the morning holders Jacki Pearce and Janet Willis go down in the pairs final 25-14 to Wilton.
