CLARRIE Dunbar claimed two more victories in a seven-day period in the Top Club and Egham Trophy in their quest to win a mixed national indoor team competitions title this season, writes DAVE EATON.

They whitewashed fellow Somerset side Purnell (Paulton) when taking a maximum 16 points in their Top Club clash.

Clarrie players took the honours in all five disciplines - ladies and men’s two wood singles, mixed pairs, mixed triples and mixed fours - in their third round (last 32) tie against Paulton side Purnell.

They now face a tough game in the next round having been drawn against top Berkshire side Whiteknights (Reading) at home in the last 16 with the game having to be played on or before February 28.

Dunbar followed up their Top Club win over Paulton by dethroning the reigning Egham holders, top Devon side Torquay United, containing several international players, by 15 shots, in the Egham Trophy, national inter-club mixed competition, two rinks home and two rinks away.

Although Clarrie only took the honours on two of the four rinks - one at home and one away - they were always in control of the game as these two rinks were always well out in front.

At Standerwick, the foursome skipped by Russell Francis ran-out 12 shot victors while away in Torquay, Graham Shadwell’s quartet roared to a comfortable 17 shots victory.

This plus 29 shots easily compensated for the home three shots loss by skip Andy Colebrooke and the 11-shot away loss by skip Neil Collett.

Clarrie move forward to the quarter-finals and a last eight clash against Hampshire side Victory (Portsmouth) on Sunday February 21.
