THE North Wilts trio of Jean Collier, Sue Cooke and Alex Jacobs have won the English Indoor Bowling Association Ladies Over 50 Two Wood Triples championship crown.

They clinched the title in a dramatic final that went to an extra end at the national championships being staged at Nottingham IBC, defeating Huntingdon 19-14 last night.

The North Wilts combination made a good start and led early on, however end four was the last time in regulation play that they held an advantage until the dramatic extra end.

Huntingdon hit back and went in front for the first time on the sixth end 5-3 and had moved 11-5 up at ten ends and still led 14-11 at 16 with only two ends remaining.

Collier, Cooke and Jacobs held their nerve with a fine finish to score a two and a single on the last two ends to draw level 14-14 at 18 and force an extra end.

Huntingdon won the toss and elected to have the last wood on the extra end and give North Wilts the mat.

Lead Jean Collier put her two bowls on top of the full length jack putting Huntingdon under severe pressure.

They opted to attack the head but North Wilts piled in the shots as Huntingdon failed to kill the end as the Wiltshire ladies grabbed a five and won the match by the remarkable scoreline of 19-14 after an extra end.

Earlier in the day North Wilts had come from behind to beat York 20-14 in the semi-finals while the previous day (Easter Monday) they had beaten Boston 23-9 in the quarter-finals and Swindon Westlecot 19-8 in the last 16.
