CHRISTIE MILLER and Clarrie Dunbar clubs both enjoyed victories in national team events.

The Miller men, who had one rink made up of the Moore family – Steve, Andy, Chris and Jordan – beat North Wilts 78-63 in the Denny Cup, while Clarrie Dunbar recorded wins in the Denny Cup, Yetton Trophy and Top Club competition.

Clarrie Dunbar will face Miller in the next round of the Denny Cup after they beat Thornbury 100-51 in their first round tie.

They took the honours on all four rinks to complete a 49-shot victory.

The rink, skipped by England international Graham Shadwell, produced Clarrie’s highest winning margin against Thornbury of 19 shots. They were closely followed by fellow home rink led by Keith Bailey (18 shots).

In the ladies equivalent national inter-club championship event for the Yetton Trophy, Dunbar recorded an impressive 74-54 win over Bristol.

They won on three of the four rinks, with Teresa King’s foursome in Bristol producing the biggest winning margin of 17 shots.

In the second round on Saturday, November 5, Dunbar will face Purnell (Paulton), two rinks home and two rinks away in Paulton.

Dunbar completed their treble of national team victories last weekend with a superb home victory over one of the west country’s top sides – Clevedon – in the Top Club competition.

The previous Sunday, they had eliminated Bristol in the mixed Egham Trophy competition and they followed it up seven days later with an equally impressive victory in the Top Club over a Clevedon team boasting three international players.

Dunbar won two of the four disciplines – mixed pairs and mixed triples – to score eight points and shared the men’s and ladies two wood singles for another two points.

Their only loss came in the mixed fours but they had accumulated enough points to win 10-6 and book a second-round tie away to North Wilts on Sunday, November 6.

WILTSHIRE extended their winning run in friendly games to three matches with a 37-shot victory at Five Rivers (Salisbury) last Saturday.

They took the honours on three of the four rinks in the 98-61 success.

KEITH Bailey is through to the Open Singles Circuit Grand Final this weekend at Northampton and District Indoor Bowls Club.

The Clarrie Dunbar bowler is the only player from this area to qualify, aided greatly by a runners-up position in the Loddon Vale Open in January.

Bailey faces Norfolk’s Wayne Willgress in the preliminary round and if successful, will play in Warwickshire’s Mark Burdett.
