NORTH WILTS ladies, who have already reached the fourth round in the Yetton Trophy, made a successful start in their bid for glory in the Mason Trophy.

The B side thrashed MidGlos B by 35 shots (49-14) in their first round Over 60s double rinks tie.

Sue Cooke’s rink of Jean Collier, Janet Hardie, Irene Button and herself led the way leading 11-0 after five ends and 21-2 after 10 before finally winning by a healthy 30-5 scoreline away in Gloucester.

At home at Westcroft, the rink of Ann Roberts-Phare, Jane Taylor, Fizz Mace and Alex Jacobs led 14-5 at halfway and finished as 19-9 victors after playing 17 ends only.

They booked a second round match against Thornbury on Friday, December 9, while the A side at North Wilts enter the fray on the same day, after a first round bye, when they meet Nailsea A.

NORTH Wilts after a preliminary round walkover when St Andrews (Weston-Super-Mare) conceded face MidGlos (Brockworth, Gloucester) in a first round Vivienne Trophy tie today, having reached the quarter finals last year.

NORTH Wilts ladies face a derby match in their fourth round Yetton Trophy tie after their 68-59 victory over MidGlos a fortnight ago.

They have been paired with Clarrie Dunbar (Standerwick, near Trowbridge) who won their delayed third round match last Saturday beating Clevedon 71-62.

ALEX Jacobs, who won a national indoor title last season when skipping the North Wilts team of Jean Collier, Sue Cooke and herself to victory over Huntingdon in the ladies Over 50s two wood triples final at Nottingham, faces an important two days this weekend.

She competes in the final England Ladies senior international trial at Northampton & District on Saturday (1pm) and then, on Sunday, bids to become the first North Wilts player to reach the final stages of a national indoor championship or competition this season.

Jacobs meets Pauline Dando (Purnell, Paulton) in the ladies champion of champions Area 16 final at Clarrie Dunbar (2pm) bidding to reach the last 16 at Warner Lakeside, Hayling Island, on February 3-5 next year.

WILTSHIRE men made a fine start in the inter-county championship last Saturday at Whiteknights, Reading, coming from 70-53 down overall after 11 ends against Berkshire to claim a brilliant 108-95 win at 18 ends.

They will play Gloucestershire at Cotswold IBC (Stroud) in the second round (last 16) on December 17.

Wiltshire ladies begin their bid for glory in the inter-county championship for the Atherley Trophy on the same day when they face Dorset at home at North Wilts in a second round (last 16) tie.
