NORTH Wilts ladies have an active interest in three national team competitions, women’s Vivienne, Yetton and Mason Trophies.

They produced a splendid fightback to claim a two-shot victory over MidGlos in the second round of the Vivienne Trophy.

They came from 33-9 down early in the match to record a superb 67-65 win at 16 ends over the Gloucester side.

North Wilts won the two home triples matches despite trailing in both 12-5 overall after five ends but lost both away games in Gloucester.

Star billing went to the trio of Lorna Chadwick, June Coyle and Rosemary Fitzpatrick, who came from 4-2 down at five ends to register a big 25-6 success, while the other triple skipped by Liz Ponting came from 11-9 down at halfway to win 19-16.

North Wilts made a dreadful start to the Vivienne Trophy tie. In the four triples matches across the board, they were down in all of them trailed 33-9 after only five ends and 48-30 at 10.

However, in the next five, they hit back forcibly, collecting 34 shots and only dropped 13 to move 64-61 up at 15 and hold their nerve on the 16th and last end for a hard-fought 67-65 victory.

The A and B teams at Westcroft are in action tomorrow in Mason Trophy second round ties with the former facing Nailsea A and B, then on Saturday North Wilts ladies a fourth round local derby against Somerset side Clarrie Dunbar.

  • ALEX Jacobs has become the first North Wilts player to reach the final stages of a national indoor championship this season.

She beat Pauline Dando (Purnell, Paulton) in the ladies champion of champions Area 16 final 21-11 at Clarrie Dunbar last Sunday to reach the last 16 at Warner Lakeside next February 3-5.
