THE ladies section at North Wilts are still involved in the 2016-17 national indoor championship events going into the new year.

They are still running in the inter-club competitions for the top two ladies team events Yetton and Vivienne Trophies.

In the four rink, four player rink Yetton competition, which they won in 2008, North Wilts have qualified for the fifth round and last 16 date with Egham IBC (Surrey) on January 7.

The prize for the winner is a quarter-final against either Moonfleet 2000 (Weymouth) or Torquay United at the end of January.

Quarter-finalists two years ago, Chippenham-based North Wilts ladies are through to round three in the (four rinks of triples) Vivienne Trophy and next play Bromsgrove (Worcs) on January 12, home and away.

In the ladies individual championships and competitions North Wilts star Alex Jacobs has qualified for the last 16 of the ladies champion of champions competition at Warner Leisure Hotels, Lakeside, Hayling Island on February 3-5.

Jacobs and plus Sue Cooke and Jean Collier are already through to the quarter-finals in Area 16 in the defence of their national O50s two wood triples title.

FORTUNES have not been kind to the county men’s and ladies sides just prior to Christmas in their scheduled friendlies.

The men’s side under the stewardship of president Steve Hockings (Christie Miller) lost on five of the six rinks against Berkshire as they crashed to a heavy 131-79 defeat at Westlecot.

The only successful rink was the foursome of Clive Vaughan (Westlecot) plus North Wilts trio of Andy Bradfield, Miles Pickering and Maurice Byron (skip) who won their game 25-12.

With the ladies’ game against Oxfordshire off as the opposition pulled out, county women’s president Fizz Mace organised a Top Club event at North Wilts.

Christie Miller and North Wilts A team were tied on 34 points, a point ahead was North Wilts B team and outright winners with 41 points were Westlecot ladies.
