ALEX JACOBS missed out on her bid to add the senior ladies indoor singles title to her two senior singles outdoor titles.

The North Wilts player went out in the quarter-finals of the ladies Over 60 singles competition last weekend at Nottingham IBC.

Jacobs blitzed her first opponent Pamela Daters (Bridport, Dorset) 21-5 in the last 16 of the competition but faced much stiffer opposition in the quarter-finals in Bournemouth’s Jean Arnaud, who had won the O60 pairs title the previous day.

The scores were tied at 6-6, 12-12, 14-14 and 15-15, before Arnaud scored a double and a treble to lead, 20-15. Jacobs hit back with a double, but Arnaud sealed a 21-17 victory on the 23rd and next end.

North Wilts ladies have qualified for the last four in the Yetton Trophy.

On Sunday, they along with Spalding (Lincs), Arun (Bognor Regis) and St Neots (Cambs) will look to be crowned champions at City and County of Bristol IBC.

North Wilts face Spalding in their semi-final clash at 10am, with the final taking place at 3pm.

Wiltshire will compete this season in a group of four in the ladies' Johns Trophy and also a group of four for the men’s Middleton Cup.

They face Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset in the Johns Trophy, while in the Middleton Cup the county will tackle Devon, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.

County ladies will hold two Johns Trophy trials, the first is at Devizes on Wednesday, April 26, at 6pm, the other trial is at Wroughton in May.

The men have a trial organised for Saturday, May 13, at Royal Wootton Bassett.

n SMITH sisters, Lucy, 21, and Katy, 20, have both been invited to take part in the Bowls England ladies Junior International (U25) trial at Royal Leamington Spa next month.
