NORTH Wilts are the county’s sole remaining side in the Yetton Trophy, the ladies top inter-club championship event after they defeated neighbours Christie Miller 81-76 in the second round.

North Wilts ladies trailed the Melksham based side for more than three quarters of the match before finally edging ahead 70-65 at 18 ends and finally winning 81-76 after 21 hard fought ends.

Winners nine years ago and beaten Yetton semi-finalists last season, North Wilts success over Christie on Saturday was aided by two fine home performances from the rinks led by Jean Collier and Fizz Mace.

Collier won by 12 shots while Mace’s winning margin was five.

However, at Christie Miller, Alex Jacobs foursome only drew 21-21 while Sue Cooke’s rink crashed to a 12 shots loss.

Across the board North Wilts were 20-17 down after five ends, 38-34 at 10 and 59-56 at 15 to Christie Miller.

But by end 18 they had edged in front 70-65 and finally won 81-76.

North Wilts will now meet Clevedon in round three on November 18.

Away - Rink 1: Ann Roberts-Phare, Jane Taylor, Irene Button, Alex Jacobs drew with Sheila Noyce, Yvonne Fitch, Georgena Coomber & Jean Buckland 21-21. Rink 2: Margaret Cooke, Karen Funnell, Betty Cowe & Sue Cooke lost to Mo Price, Marian Lockey, Janet Hoskins & Bev Lilley 14-26.

NORTH Wilts men have bowed out of the Denny Plate after losing their first round tie.

After already exiting the Denny Cup, they then suffered a 79-64 defeat to Somerset side Isle of Wedmore in the Plate.

The club have also gone out of the two mixed competitions Top Club and Egham Trophy.

In the Top Club, they were eliminated by Malvern Hills on shots difference after drawing 8-8 on points.

While in the Egham they won their first game against Nailsea but went out in the second to arch rivals Clarrie Dunbar 85-71.

Leaving the ladies the only North Wilts sides flying the flag in national team competitions.

Their two sides in the Mason Trophy (Over 60 ladies double rinks) play MidGlos B and Purnell respectively in round one on November 24.

Meanwhile the Vivienne Trophy side (four rinks of triples) do not enter the national fray until next year in round two against Taunton Deane.

THE SECOND round of group fixtures in the central section of the men’s Wessex League are due to be played a week on Sunday, November 19.

North Wilts face St Andrews (WSM) and Clarrie Dunbar play Nailsea.
