DEPLETED Club 54 side could only field 10 players for their opening league match at Buttercross FC so it was little surprise the Trowbridge-based outfit slipped to a 3-1 loss.

James Lardner, James Flynn and the youthful Steve Mallard found the net for Buttercross, Jake Sainsbury was on target for Club 54 who, through injury, finished the game with nine players.

Cannings Rangers caused an upset against a Corsham Park side flying high after an opening day 7-1 victory, the hosts claiming a 3-2 win.

Carl Jacobi with two and Cameron Lee’s single earned Rangers, who lost keeper Pete Drew with a shoulder injury early on, their win. Joe Masson and Kevin Bance, from the penalty spot, replied for Corsham.

Evana Designs suffered a 3-0 loss at home to local rivals The Grapes United.

James Worsley, James Ponsford and Nathan Walker shared the goals for the Grapes.

FC Lacock may have missed out on a fixture last weekend, but their first match in resulted in them beating Westbury Conservative Club 4-2.

Westbury led though an Adam Fisher which was erased by Ryan Ross and when the unfortunate Dave Connolly put through his own net Lacock took a 2-1 lead into the break.

Goals for Josh Hard and Jordan Miners extended Lacock’s lead to 4-1 before Fisher scored his second Westbury.

An outstanding goalkeeping display from Trowbridge Wanderers keeper Mark Binns was the main reason why Matt Rusling’s side were able to take a point from their guests Stonewood Sunday’s at Lambrok Road.

Binns was finally beaten by Andy Flynn on 85 minutes that earned his team a point after Tom Mann had given Wanderers a 50th-minute lead.
