FIRST Division leaders Potterne CFC – tipped as nailed-on certainties to progress to the quarter-final stages of this season’s Ken Clarke -sponsored WG Parr Trophy – were dumped out by Bath Road, who progressed after a 7-5 extra-time victory.

Bath Road led 5-2 at the break, Tim Knight, two from Matt White, Lee Grant and Nick Maniford on target as Neil Clark replied before second-half goals from Richard Hudson (own goal), Craig Townsend (penalty) and Clark’s hat-trick strike took it to extra time.

White’s third of the tie reclaimed the lead for Bath Road before Jack Clunie sealed a remarkable win.

Second division Bremhill View FC ended the cup dreams of Division Three Cavalier FC with an 11-0 thumping, Jack Williamson and Steve Allison twice, Kieron Gleed’s hat-trick, Ben Redford, Aaron Gardiner, Luke Minnis and Billy Gleed sharing the goals.

Trophy favourites Corsham CC Wildcats lived up to their top billing after they advanced to the quarter finals thanks to their thumping 12-2 victory of ten-man Premier Division Somerford FC.

Sam Jordan scored four times, Adam Mitchell three, Chay Forester, two from Leigh Rogers and a Mel King strike completing a scoring. Matt Spear and Will Stone replied for Somerford.

Premier Division Goatacre CC FC and second division Rowdy Cow Rowde were involved in a thrilling tie, Goatacre keeper Shaun Preen saving two shootout spot-kicks to send his side through.

Darren Holcombe’s goal for Goatacre was cancelled out by Bradley Whitbread’s 57th-minute strike and successful spot kicks from Simon Dance, Holcombe, Dan Barnett and Rob Murphy won it for Goatacre after Preen had saved penalties from Jamie Wallen and Whitbread, Robbie White being the only Rowde player to score from 12 yards.

Last term’s beaten finalists Sutton Benger were beaten 7-5 in extra time by second division Miller Sports B, despite leading 3-1 at one stage.

Mark Bolton’s hat-trick, Lewis Baker and Owen Young scored for Benger, Harry Wyalen’s hat-trick, two from Nathan Drew, Brendan Knight’s penalty, and Callum Race sending Miller through.

The all-first division clash between hosts North Star FC and Trowbridge Town Supporters Club saw Star advance 4-0, Declan Blandford’s hat-trick and Adam Welch the men on target.

First division stablemates Pheasant FC and Talbot FC met, the latter progressing 4-2. Pete Fisher and Richie Bolter scored for Pheasant, but Dean Fry, Shaun Ward, Stuart Windsor and Aaron Clegg sent Talbot through.

Second division Worton & Cheverell were given a walkover into the second round after Christian Malford were unable to raise a side.
