DEFENDING Premier Division champions The Castle FC suffered a huge blow to their hopes of retaining the title after they were surprisingly beaten 6-3 by a Somerford FC.
Somerford had lost three of their opening four league matches but Matt Spear’s hat-trick, Will Stone’s double and Jordan Bayliss condemned them to defeat.
Mike Tilley, who was later sent off, scored two for the Castle and manager Tom Perkins the other.
The top flight’s top two did battle at Yatton Road, Biddestone, where Corsham CC Wildcats extended their unbeaten start with a comfortable 5-1 victory over injury-hit White Horse A FC.
Steve Oakley’s fifth goal of the season for Horse was little more than a consolation as Adam Mitchell, Will Chivers, Tom Lye and Chay Forester twice did the damage.
A 3-2 victory for Prestige Bodyworks at Goatacre CC FC extended their unbeaten star, Craig Fisher striking the second-half winner after Mark Nolan had seen his first-half double cancelled out by goals from Jake Fortune and Darren Holcombe.
FC Constitutional who couldn’t buy a win in their opening five matches, followed up their victory over Somerford with a 2-0 success at Westbury Rangers, Ben Hibberd and Ben Leslie’s excellent individual effort sealing victory.
