THE all-first division A M Print & Copy-sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup first round clash between local rivals Sportzcoach Dragonz United and Melksham Cosmos was as good as expected with the latter claiming their place in the draw for the second round courtesy of their 5-3 triumph over a Dragonz side who they had already beaten 4-2 this term.

Jason Hull’s hat-trick, a Rich Allum own goal and a Joe Griffith effort made up the winners' five. Debutant Sean Meer hit two and Rich Allum this time at the correct end replying.

It may be early days, but for many people one of the dark horses to lift the cup this season are third division Grapes United. Following their 5-0 win at Cavalier FC there is no reason why Tony Couch’s side can’t go on and have a good cup run. James Worsley twice, Mikki Harrison, Nick Ridout and Stuart Barber sharing the goals.

In what was one of the most mouthwatering ties of round the all-Premier Division clash between its leaders Corsham CC Wildcats and second-placed Prestige Bodyworks lived up to all expectations with a thrilling game being won 4-2 by the Wildcats.

Leigh Rogers with three and Dan King were on target for the Wildcats, Matt Hooper from the penalty spot and Adam O’Keeffe scored for Prestige.

Cup holders Corsham Centre Youth did just enough to see off the challenge of Premier Division Westbury Rangers. A second-half goal from James Lye earning the champions the narrowest of 1-0 wins.

There was no cup upset at Christie Miller where things went to form and Corsham Park came out on top beating their third division stable mates Evana Designs 6-1.

Mike Blunsdon’s double, two from Darren Applegate and singles for Jake Loft and Kevin Bance making up the half dozen. Milo Pearson scored for Evana.

Bremhill View progressed to the second round of the Knockout Cup after they beat fellow second division outfit Miller Sports B 2-0, Marcus Lovesey and player-manager Ben Redford scoring for the Calne-based winners.

After suffering their first loss of the season last weekend, Mark Clarke’s North Star slumped to a second successive defeat, second division Rowdy Cow Rowde beating their first division opponents 3-1 to book their place in the last 16.

Bradley Whitbread twice and Josh Scott being on target for Rowde. Mickey Taraskevics replied for a Star who missed a penalty and had two goal ruled out.

A stunning long-range free kick from William Birch gave Oakhill their consolation in their 6-1 loss to first division FC Buscots in their cup first round clash.

Phil Little’s double and an Adam Bewley goal along with a second-half treble from Luke Enderby saw Buscots home.

Last term's beaten Knockout Cup finalists The Castle FC were paired with preliminary round giantkillers FC Lacock.

The third division side had sent Premier Division Somerford crashing out of the competition, but there was no fairytale adventure for Ryan Ross who were beaten 9-4.

Jack Hooper, Adam Heath and Luke Hooper scored two apiece and a goal each for Tom Slater, Jonny Emm and Martin Robinson made up the Castle’s tally. Josh Hard with two and singles for Ryan Ross and Jordan Miners were the men on target for Lacock.

First division Trowbridge Town Supporters Club, who registered their first win of the season last weekend, were given a scare by third division Cannings Rangers before fighting back to book their place in the second round thanks to a 4-3 win.

Jason Greenidge, Harry Easton and Carl Jacobi scored for a Cannings side who led 2-0 and 3-2, before a Jordan Pinder double gave the supporters’ club victory after goals from John Williams (penalty) and Dan Price had got the level at two each.

AFC Melksham came out on top of their all-Premier Division battle with White Horse (Sunday) A.

After a goalless first half, Melksham found the scoring boots, Brett Partner giving them the lead, Sean Fordham scoring a hat-trick before Ian Dowell struck a wonder goal to make the final score 5-1.

Jordan Gullis was the lone marksman for the White Horse.
