AFTER only booking their spot in the last 16 of this season's A M Print & Copy-sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup last weekend with a victory over FC Bradford, second division Bath Road produced the result of the second round when they disposed of first division leaders Potterne CFC.

Potterne went into the game looking to avenge their 7-5 extra-time WG Parr Trophy loss to Bath Road, but once again Tim Knight’s side upset the formbook with a 2-1 win.

With neither team unable to break the deadlock in the first half it took an unfortunate own goal from Darren Lewis to hand Bath Road the second-half advantage.

Tom Sigee added a second for the underdogs before Neil Clark’s goal on 87 minutes gave Potterne a glimmer of hope.

Top flight pacesetters Corsham CC Wildcats overcame a potential banana skin to their hopes of lifting this seasons Knockout Cup.

Frank Rogers took his team to third division high flyers Bremhill View FC, who gave a great account of themselves before suffering a 5-2 loss, in what was an excellent game of football that was well refereed by Niall Burtt.

Goals from Tom Lye and Sam Jordan gave the Wildcats a 2-0 half-time lead.

Mark Dolman halved the deficit for Bremhill early in the second half before a second for Jordan enabled the Wildcats to reclaim a two-goal advantage.

Bremhill kept themselves in the tie when Steve Allison fired home a brilliant free kick to reduce the gap to the odd goal.

Wildcats took a 4-2 lead courtesy of a third from Sam Jordan and Bremhill saw their brave effort ended by Adam Mitchell who netted to seal the Wildcats 5-2 success and a place in the quarter-finals.

Defending Knockout Cup winners Corsham Centre Youth did the business at first division FC Buscots who were missing a number of key players for one of their biggest games of the season.

Buscots who had sent Premier Division AFC Melksham out of the Sunday Cup a week earlier couldn’t reach those highs as a 4-0 loss ended their hopes of cup glory for another season.

Corsham took 40 minutes to unlock the Buscots defence and when the opening came it was the unlikely Sam Hodsell who broke the stalemate.

The second half saw Centre raise their game and goals from Mark Sharratt and Darrin Moss, who netted twice to the holders through to the quarter finals where they will travel to either Grapes United FC or Corsham Park.

AFC Melksham bounced back from last week's surprise Sunday Cup exit at the hands of FC Buscots, to claim their place in the last eight of this season Knockout Cup.

A 6-0 win at second division Rowdy Cow Rowde was not as one-sided as the scoreline would suggest it was as Rowde wasted many chances of their own before Sean Fordham bagged Melksham’s only goal of a tight first half that could have ended three apiece.

Melksham raised their game in the second period and once Tony McElone had doubled their advantage it knocked the stuffing out of their hosts and further goals from Brett Partner, Bobby Mitchell on his debut and substitute James Dark who scored twice made up Melksham’s half dozen.

Last term's beaten Knockout Cup finalists The Castle kept their dreams of reaching back-to-back finals alive after they sent third division Stonewood Sundays crashing out in round two.

A 7-4 victory for Tom Perkins Premier Division outfit means that they will host the winners of the delayed Miller Sports A v Melksham Cosmos tie for a place in the last four.

In what was an evenly-matched first 45 minutes that Castle edged 3-2, Gary Campbell, Jack Fisher and Matt Tilley netted for Perkins side with Tom Carter and Jack Gruar scoring to keep Stonewood in the tie.

Dan Hughes and Dwaine Perry found the net for Stonewood in the second period, but their goals couldn’t prevent them from defeat as Tom Slater’s double and a further goal each for Fisher and Tilley kept Castle in the cup.
