STONEWOOD Sundays BFC suffered a setback to their hopes of promotion from Division Three in their first season.

Stonewood entertained a Cannings Rangers team who they had beaten 4-0 on the opening day of the campaign.

The villagers, under the leadership of the inspirational Pete Drew, have been on the rise and a 6-3 reverse for Cannings confirmed that they will be a match for most teams as the season reaches its climax.

Two goals each from Jason Grennidge and Cannings 17-year-old debutant Gabriel Gospodinov along with singles for Dan Gaw and Cameron Lee made up the half dozen.

Ashley Groves (penalty), Luke Harfield and a Tony Greenidge own goal were just consolations for Stonewood.

A 4-2 victory for FC Lacock at Buttercross moved them into second place in the standings behind runaway leaders The Grapes United.

Scott Nash gave Buttercross who haven’t won in nine games the perfect start, but his opener for the Butter boys’ was cancelled out by Rory Davis whose goal took the teams into the break at one apiece.

Buttercross had a chance to regain the lead early in the second half but James Soper somehow skied his shot from a yard out when it looked easier to find the empty net than miss the target completely.

The miss proved costly as Jordan O’Dywer put Lacock 2-1 before both O’Dywer and Davis added to their earlier goals to make it 4-1.

Scott Nash added his second for Buttercross late in the game but it was nothing more than a consolation for his team.

After a goalless first 45 minutes in their game at Whaddon Lane against Evana Designs, Matt Ruslings Trowbridge Wanderers (Sunday) side woke from their slumbers to claim a 3-1 that avenged their 5-3 loss from when the teams last met.

Within one minute of the second half kicking off, Troy Thomas but Evana ahead. Wanderers got back on level terms when Simon Parfitt scored from the penalty spot after Jack Parker had been pulled back. Parker himself gave Wanderers the lead with a superb strike into the top corner from a tight angle off a a Ryan Underwood cross.

Ryan Parfitt wrapped up the points with a neat header from a Carl Mackness cross.

After suffering defeat in their opening five games of the season, Westbury Conservative Club have turned things around. A 1-0 victory for the Cons’ Club at home to Cavalier was their fifth straight success at Leighton Sports Centre.

Frankie McEntegart scored in the second half to extend his team's unbeaten run to five games.
