A FIRST game in nearly a month for AFC Melksham in the Premier Division of the S.K. Fruits Ltd-sponsored Chippenham & DIstrict Sunday League saw them travel to a Goatacre CC FC side, who were looking to build on last week's excellent 2-0 victory over defending champions The Castle FC.

They did just that as, for a second week running, they tore up the formbook.

A 5-3 victory for the cricketers’ saw them avenge their 7-0 thumping at the hands of Melksham from earlier this term.

After falling behind to a Dave Macey goal, the cricketers’ fought back to lead 2-1 at the interval, Darren Holcombe scoring both goals.

Melksham turned things around in the second period as a Tony McElhone double put Mike Rogers side 3-2 up.

Sam Price got the cricketers back on level terms and a second from Price helped them edge in front for a second time in the game.

The hosts finally wrapped up the points and another impressive victory when Ross Crichton fired home their fifth of the morning.

With their hopes of claiming back-to-back top flight titles in tatters after last weekend's surprise defeat to Goatacre, Tom Perkins' Castle FC side beat Somerford 5-1.

Rob Mitchell, Joe Unsworth from the penalty spot and a spectacular overhead effort from Matt Tilley gave Castle a 3-0 half-time lead.

A second for Mitchell along with a first for the club from Jamie Lawrence made up the winners' tally.

Matt Spear replied for a Somerford, who were in action for the first time in eight weeks.
