RUNAWAY Division One leaders Potterne took another small step to winning the title, as a 1-1 draw for Craig Fisher’s side at home to Miller Sports A saw them open up a 15-point lead at the top of the table, Sportzcoach Dragonz side suffering an unexpected loss at home to North Star.

After a goalless first period the deadlock was broken by Miller’s Richard Moules. Potterne had the chance to square things up when they were awarded a controversial penalty that led to James Webb being sent off, Craig Townsend stepped up to take the spot kick but his effort from 12 yards was saved by Alex Coombs.

Townsend saved not just his and Potterne’s blushes as he found the net with the last kick of the game to hand the leaders a point from a game Miller thought they deserved to win for the effort they put in.

FC Pig and Whistle came from 2-0 down to take the points from Christian Malford with a 3-2 away win at Stanley Park and to complete the double over Malford having won 2-0 earlier in the season.

There was very little between the teams at the start with both keepers having to make saves. Gradually Malford began to dominate midfield but struggled to beat the Pig and Whistle offside trap.

Finally, after 24 minutes, Scott Evans put Malford 1-0 up with a neat finish. Pig and Whistle should have equalised shortly afterwards but a strong header went wide.

Malford went further ahead after 32 minutes when Scott Evans scored again with a low shot. Pig and Whistle however hit back after 37 minutes when Ollie Woodland scored with a shot from long range. Both teams had further chances but the score remained 2-1 for Malford at half time.

Malford’s plans were a little disrupted when they had to replace their goalkeeper due to injury with midfielder Ben Munns taking over.

He was soon called into action making two excellent saves to keep Malford in front.

Pig & Whistle were now beginning to get on top and after 52 minutes Ollie Woodland played in Jack Woolsgrove who made no mistake with an easy chance to bring Pig and Whistle level at 2-2.

Despite some good defending, Pig and Whistle went in front after 83 minutes. Ashley Fletcher’s shot hit the post but cannoned out to Jack Woolsgrove who put it into the back of the net to give Pig and Whistle a 3-2 lead.

Malford could not make any telling attacks and the game ended with a 3-2 win for Pig and Whistle.

Having already beaten opponents Pheasant FC 4-3 and 4-2 this season, Talbot FC completed a hat-trick of wins over their rivals when the sides locked horns at Stanley Park.

For Pheasant, who snatched a last second win against Pig & Whistle last weekend, it was their turn to suffer heartache after overturning a 2-0 interval deficit they undone all their hard as a goal in the final minute handed Talbot a 3-2.

Talbot led 2-0 at half time thanks to goals from Stuart Windsor and Nathan West.

Joey Hylands reduced the arrears for Pheasant and a penalty from Craig Archard got them on level terms before Windsor’s second of the game which came right at the death maintained Talbot’s hoodoo over their opponents.

Sportzcoach Dragonz United were unable to capitalise on Potterne’s loss of points. Dragonz remain in second spot but their unexpected 4-1 loss at home to North Star saw them dropped further behind the leaders.

Declan Blandford’s goal put the Star one up at the break. Dan Heap scored direct from a corner to double the lead for the Calne-based side and Jordan Murphy’s third goal of the campaign made it 3-0 before Sportzcoach got on the scoresheet thanks to Sean Meer’s fantastic lob.

Any hopes of a Sportzcoach revival was shortlived as Heap found the net for a second time, his fine finish from a Paul Knight corner made certain of the Star’s first win in five outings.

Sutton Benger boosted their chances of staying in the division following their 5-2 success away at fellow strugglers Trowbridge Town Supporters Club.

Trowbridge, who had not played since the start of December were three down at the interval to goals from Rhys Merriman, Karl Gibson and Tom Stratton for whom it was his first of the season.

Goals from Dean Coles and Jordan Pinder gave Trowbridge hope of getting something from the game, but just as they were getting back into the contest they fell asleep again to let Benger score a further two goals, Mark Boltan and a first of the campaign from Louis Baker making up their five.
