IF ANY proof was needed that Melksham-based Grapes United FC are the team heading towards the Division Three title, they produced it by blowing away closest challengers FC Bradford.

An 8-2 success for Tony Couch’s side saw them extended their winning run to 11 matches but, more importantly, they now have a five-point lead over the second-placed side, who are now Stonewood Sundays.

Emilio Menghini scored the first two goals for Grapes and Nick Ridout made it 3-0 before Mark Robinson pulled a goal back for Bradford.

Nigel Hall’s goal direct from a corner gave him his first goal for the Grapes and his team a 4-1 interval lead.

Grapes started the second half how they finished the first, a second for Ridout made 5-1 and it was 6-1 soon after Menghini finding the net to complete his hat-trick.

A first goal for Bradford’s James Kellam was little more than a consolation as a goal each for Stuart Barber and Lee Fielding guided Grapes to one of their best wins of the season to date.

A 2-0 defeat at home to Corsham Park saw Evana Designs fall to a seventh straight defeat.

Mike Wilkins' 18-yard strike gave Corsham a half-time lead and Simon Young’s penalty wrapped up a second successive win for Martin Perrett’s side.

A 3-0 victory for Stonewood Sundays at home to Cavalier coupled with FC Bradford’s loss at leaders Grapes United means that they have now moved into second spot in the standings.

Stonewood took the lead through Mike Hopkins powerful headed effort. Hopkins slid the ball beyond the keeper from six yards out to double his team's lead and Joe Bergson made it 3-0 when he picked up a perfectly weighted ball from Ashley Groves and slotted it between the keeper's legs.
