MEADOW Lane was the stage for the proverbial relegation six-pointer between hosts Westbury Rangers and Somerford, who both started the day on six points apiece and in the Premier Division's bottom two.

Come the final whistle both teams remained in the drop zone, but it was Somerford who were celebrating a famous win after they overturned a 3-0 deficit to claim an unbelievable 4-3 win, after playing the whole game with 10 players.

Matt Mead gave Westbury the lead on 15 minutes and Lee Mounty’s goal midway through the half earned them a 2-0 interval lead. Things got better for Rangers in the second period when Josh Gardner made it 3-0 on 60 minutes.

It should have been game over, but that was not the case as with just 12 minutes remaining Somerford started their incredible comeback, Matt Holdaway scoring on 78 minutes.

Two minutes later, Dan Thomas had narrowed the gap to the odd goal and on 83 minutes Tim Fry restored parity for Somerford. With three minutes left on the clock, a second for Holdaway completed the turnaround for the villagers who had somehow snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

A 6-3 victory for Corsham CC Wildcats at home to a Goatacre CC FC side, who were playing their last league game of the campaign, saw them get their title challenge back on track after their surprise defeat at White Horse A last weekend.

Chay Forester saw his opener for the Wildcats cancelled out by Gary Thomas. Adam Mitchell regained the lead for the Wildcats but Goatacre fought back and levelled for a second time, Thomas scoring his second of the game.

Wildcats struck almost immediately in the second half with a second from Mitchell putting them 3-2 in front.

Leigh Rogers made it 4-2 and Dan King added number five before Adam Mitchell completed his hat-trick for 6-2.

Although he finished on the losing side, Goatacre’s Thomas had a game to remember as his third goal of the morning gave his team a late consolation.

Reigning champions The Castle FC, made the trip to Westbury, to face a rejuvenated White Horse (Sunday) A FC.

The trip home to Devizes was made that much sweeter courtesy of a workmanlike performance that saw them win 3-2 and close the gap on their opponents to just two points, with the same number of games in hand.

A 10th-minute opener from Marcus Wallen was suitable reward for Castle’s early dominance, but they were pegged back just five minutes later when Horse skipper Rob Hart levelled direct from a wide free kick that caused hesitancy in the away side’s defensive ranks.

The visitors lead was restored on the half-hour mark, when Wallen nodded home his second of the morning, and this time they held on to the lead that their exploits had deserved until the interval.

Parity was restored just two minutes into the second period though as a hungrier Horse looked to find the recent form that had seen them win three on the bounce, Hart’s whipped free kick taking a wicked deflection to double his own and his side’s tally for the morning.

The Castle went ahead for the third time in the morning just before the hour, as Tom Slater was sent clean through, rounding keeper Andy Ladd and passing the ball into a vacant net to make it 3-2.
