MELKSHAM-BASED The Grapes United FC are edging ever closer to being crowned third division champions in their very first season on the league.

Under the management of Tony Couch they stretched their 100 per cent winning run to 14 matches with a 5-2 win at FC Lacock and now just need three more victories from their remaining six matches to clinch the title.

The Grapes made the best possible start with Stuart Barber putting them one up in the first minute but they were unable to build on it and Lacock restored parity via a stunning Corey Williams free kick.

Nick Ridout's sublime 20-yard drive regained the lead for Grapes and Ridout headed home to put his team into a 3-1 lead.

A second for Williams kept Lacock in the game, but that was as close as they got to the leaders as Stuart Barber’s mis-hit cross made it 4-2 before James Worsley curled home a 35 yarder to complete another fine win for the leaders.

FC Bradford maintained their interest in the battle for a top two finish thanks to a 4-2 win at Cannings Rangers.Wayne Duggen’s side put the disappointment of last weeks loss at the Cons’ Club behind them, but they didn’t have everything their own way and were forced to work really hard before taking all three points from their trip to All Cannings.

Bradford led 2-0 at the break through goals from Steve Bryant and Jimmy Meade and when Harry Hamlin added a third early in the second period it should have been game over for the hosts.

Bradford had Gary Brooks sent off with 35 minutes remaining and this allowed Cannings to stage a fight back and Carl Jacobi pulled a goal and when Jason Greenidge reduced the arrears to the odd goal Bradford knew they were in a battle.

After steadying the ship, Ashley Styles scored the fourth and all-important goal for Bradford with five minutes to go and they held on to claim three points in the bid for promotion.

Bradford’s manager Duggan credited the brilliant effort from his players after taking a make shift side to Cannings.

Shaun Daniels being the motivator behind the victory and keeper Morgan Williams again making some good saves to allow Bradford to get the win.

A 2-1 victory for Trowbridge Wanderers at Corsham Park saw Matt Rusling’s side avenge their 5-2 defeat at the hands of Martin Perrett’s side from earlier in the season.

Wanderers broke the deadlock through Paul Gittins who latched onto a pass from Rusling and give his team the lead. Kadir Ayhan got Corsham Park back on level terms before half time.

With both teams not wanting to settle for a point, they went in search of a winner and it took something a bit special from Wanderers Nick Gleeson to win it for Rusling’s side.

Gleeson thumped home a brilliant 25-yard free kick that went in off both the Corsham keeper and the bar to wrap up the points for the visitors to Leafy Lane.

It was a classic case of after the Lord Mayor’s show for Westbury Conservative Club who, after last week's excellent win over promotion hopefuls FC Bradford, came back down to earth with a bang following their 6-0 home defeat to second in the table Stonewood Sundays BFC.

Stonewood took the lead through Andy Flynn with a header from a Mike Flynn corner.

Another Mike Flynn corner was headed home by Kris Beasley to make it 2-0. Beasley scored an excellent individual effort for his second and his team's third before Ashley Barnett’s cheeky chip over the Cons’ keeper after beating two players made it 4-0.

It was 5-0 prior to the interval, Dwaine Perry heading home from yet another Mike Flynn corner.

The goals may have dried up for Stonewood in the second half, but the one they managed to score saw Beasley complete his hat-trick. After controlling a cross into the area, he took it out left before firing across the keeper to net another impressive effort.
