ALL three of the title chasing sides in Division One collected maximum points as they look to keep the pressure on each other as the season reaches its climax.

Third-placed FC Buscots had the result of the day as they fought back from a 2-0 interval deficit at home to Miller Sports A to claim a 3-2 win with all their goals coming in the final 10 minutes.

Scott Boyd’s goals separated the teams at the break and when Ashley Monaghan doubled the lead for the Miller Boys’ it was looking as if Buscots promotion hopes would be dealt another blow.

However a couple of injuries led to changes for the leaders and with them it gave Buscots a lifeline which they grabbed with both hands.

Luke Enderby reduced the arrears on 80 minutes when he scored from the penalty spot and with Miller running on empty they couldn’t hold out and it was only a matter of time before Buscots equalised, Nick Oram netting to bring the scores level.

Miller, who had put in an excellent shift were undone again three minutes from time. Enderby weaved his way into the area before firing home the all important third of the day for Buscots to see them run out 3-2 victors.

For a second successive week Sportzcoach Dragonz United lost out in a local derby. After losing to Melksham Cosmos a week ago, Dragonz suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of their Melksham rivals FC Pig & Whistle.

Andy Sayers with his first for club and Rob O’Harrow’s goals gave Rich Allen’s team a 2-0 lead at half time and a second-half goal for O’Harrow and fifth of the season from Simon Wathen sealed victory and bragging rights for the Pig.

Of the three side chasing the title Melksham Cosmos are looking the best bet.

A 5-2 victory at home against a very determined Christian Malford side who are fighting for their first division survival may not have been their best display of the season.

But after failing to find the net in the first period they dug deep and put on a second-half performance to show why they would be worthy champions.

Dan Moore gave Cosmos the lead but his goal was cancelled out by a 35 yard wonder strike from Dave Brown, before a second from Moore handed the initiative back to Cosmos. Phil Carter put them 3-1 up and Alex Shaftoe added their fourth to put them in charge.

James Pope scored a second for Malford, but it was to count for nothing as a third of the game for Moore saw him complete a well-taken hat-trick which took his tally to 13 in seven games since his move from Sportzcoach Dragonz.

Long-time leaders Potterne CFC notched up win number 16 of the season, however their 3-2 triumph at Pheasant FC was anything but easy as the hosts made Craig Fisher’s side, who had won the reverse fixture 4-0, worked hard for the points second time around.

Wayne House and Neil Clark’s goals had put Potterne in control, but when Pete Fisher scored to halve the arrears following a defensive mix-up it opened the game up.

Any nerves Potterne may have had were soon settled when their two-goal cushion was restored thanks to a second of the morning from House.

Pheasant may have been down but they weren’t out of it and got themselves back in the game through Shahram Hemmati and they pushed hard for an equaliser.

Sutton Benger eased their own relegation worries thanks to an 8-2 success at home to basement side Trowbridge Town Supporters Club who started the game with nine players and no recognised keeper before gaining an extra body for the second period.

Desspite their numerical disadvantage, the supporters’ club gave a good account of themselves in the first half but trailed 4-0, Luke Todd, Rhys Merriman, Louis Baker and Joe Merriman sharing the Benger goals.

The second saw Robbie Newton arrive to replace Dave Strickland between the sticks and it was Strickland who, along with Jordan Pinder who scored from the penalty spot, got their names on the scoresheet for the supporters’ club who leaked another four goals.

Mark Bolton with two and singles for Dan Smith and James Weston made up Benger’s tally.
