IN WHAT manager Tom Perkins claims is S.K. Fruits Ltd-sponsored Chippenham & District Sunday League Premier Division defending champions The Castle FC’s last season in the league, they may yet have a say who will be crowned this term's table toppers.

The Devizes-based side are unlikely to reclaim the title, but a 2-1 victory at home to leaders Prestige Bodyworks, which was their first loss of the season, has certainly left the door ajar for both Castle and Corsham Wildcats, who have been thrown an unexpected lifeline in their bid for glory.

Rob Mitchell saw his first-half effort for Castle cancelled out by Adam O’Keeffe, however a Marcus Wallen goal earned Castle maximum points and brought an end to Bodyworks' 11-match unbeaten run.

With the teams set to meet again next weekend, Castle will now fancy their chances of claiming another victory over Tyrone Prades' side and if that was to happen the title race could go right to the final day of the season.

Struggling sides Somerford and Westbury Rangers met in Great Somerford and it was Rangers who were the happier of the two teams at the final whistle as a 4-1 win saw them record their first victory in nine outings.

It also went some way to banishing the memory of the 4-3 loss they suffered at the hands of the villagers when they met earlier this year.

Back in February, Westbury were three up at home to Somerford who played that game with 10 men but they allowed the villagers to recover to run out 4-3 victors.

On this occasion Matty Mead’s 37th minute effort put Rangers ahead and when Mead double his and Rangers tally on 60 minutes they were in total control.

The nerves may have set in for Westbury when Matt Spear pulled a goal back for Somerford with 15 minutes left.

However unlike their previous meeting, Westbury regained control of things and went 3-1 up thanks to Drew Adams 80th minute strike. With time running out a second from Adams wrapped up victory for Shaun Gardiner’s side.
