NEEDING just a point from their final fixture of the season away at Miller Sports A to be crowned Division One champions, Potterne CFC took all three on offer as they clinched the title with a 3-0 win at the Beeches.

After a tight first 45 minutes where neither team could force an opening, the deadlock was broken in the second period by Wayne House who headed Potterne in front.

Craig Townsend settled any nerves Potterne may have had when he doubled their lead and a second from Townsend wrapped up victory to send his teammates into a partying mood.

With their closest rivals for an automatic promotion spot to the top flight - Melksham Cosmos - without a game, a 5-1 victory for FC Buscots at home to FC Pig & Whistle saw them open up a four-point gap over their rivals in the battle for what now is the runners-up spot.

Jack Woolgrove’s goal for the Pig & Whistle separated the teams at the interval and with Buscots only coming to life in the last 20 minutes, the Pig’s player/manager Richard Allen looked on course to celebrate his 500th appearance for the Melksham based side with a shock win, but that wasn’t to be as five late goals earned Buscots their win.

Luke Enderby restored parity, when he fired home a free-kick before Nick Oram went one-on-one with the Pig’s keeper and gave his team the lead.

Enderby then looped home his second and Buscots' third before Steve Badger turned an Enderby cross into his own net for 4-1. Ali Bradley completed the scoring for Buscots, whose match with Melksham Cosmos next week could decide the fate of both teams.

When Sportzcoach Dragonz United and Talbot FC met earlier their year they fought out a thrilling 3-3 draw. With the return match at Little Marsh expected to be just as entertaining, it didn’t quite live up to expectations, however it was still a great game as the Dragonz overturned a half-time deficit to run out 3-1 winners.

Shaun Ward’s penalty gave Talbot their lead, which was cancelled out by a first goal of the season for Shaun Heathcote, who followed it up with his second to put Dragonz 2-1 up.

The victory was rubber-stamped when Ross Mather added number three. Local rivals Sutton Benger and Pheasant FC played out a 1-1 draw.

Pheasant, who won the previous meeting 3-1, were looking to bounce back from a midweek defeat at Miller Sports A while Benger, who suffered a 4-1 loss to Melksham Cosmos, would have been happy with a point as it may be the one that helps keep them in the division.

Pheasant led early on through a deflected Shahram Hemmati goal. This was cancelled out on the stroke of half-time when Rhys Merriman bundled home the equaliser.
