NEEDING to win just one of their two remaining matches to beat Melksham Cosmos to the runners-up spot in Division One, FC Buscots achieved their task at the first attempt.

A 5-2 victory at home to Talbot FC means that Mark Camacho’s side, along with Potterne CFC, will be guaranteed top-flight football next season.

Adam Bewley fired Buscots into a first half lead and they were three-up by the break, courtesy of a double from Ali Bradley.

Dean Fry reduced the arrears for the Talbot but it wasn’t long before Buscots had restored their three-goal advantage, a second of the evening from Bewley put them 4-1 up.

Dean Fry gave Talbot a glimmer of hope with his second of the match but it counted for nothing as Nathan Moffat wrapped up victory and the runners-up sport for Devizes-based Buscots.

A 9-0 defeat for Christian Malford away at Miller Sports A means that they will be playing second division football next term.

Malford’s hopes of beating the drop rested with them winning their last two matches, however they were unable to produce what would have been a Houdini-style escape act as Mike Stevens' side ran riot.

As the scoreline suggests, Miller dominated the game, with Malford not troubling their keeper.

Paul Walker opened the scoring after a one-on-one and it was 2-0 when Ashley Monaghan crossed for Scott Boyd to side-foot home.

Boyd then added his second beating a man then side footing into the far corner for 3-0.

Mike Stevens made it 4-0 - after nutmegging a player on the edge of the box, he rounded the keeper and drove home. Joe Murray then hit a powerful effort from the edge of the box to make it 5-0 at the break.

The second half started like the first, with Scott Boyd completing his hat-trick and with a fine left-foot volley.

Adrian Bridge was then brought on upfront and the defender turned and finished neatly to open his account for the club.

Fellow substitute Will Gale had a couple of chances after coming on and he finally scored with a cross which looped over the keeper into the far corner.

Miller continued to push on for more and Monaghan had a goal disallowed before finally getting his first and Miller's ninth of the evening when he cut inside and drove home across the keeper.

Midfielder Jacob O'Keefe was involved in five of the goals.
