WITH the top two places in Division Three already sorted, all that was left for champions The Grapes United FC was to see if they could complete the perfect season.

Having won their previous 19 matches, the Melksham-based side hosted Corsham Park at Awdry Avenue bidding for win number 20 and it duly arrived thanks to a 4-2 win.

Nick Ridout’s goal gave Grapes a half time lead. A second from Ridout, this time from the penalty spot put them 2-0 up before Dave Smith reduced the arrears from the penalty with his first of the season. Two more from Ridout took his and Grapes tally to four.

Joe Masson's 25-yard drive gave Corsham their second of the game, but like Smith’s spot kick it was just a consolation as Grapes saw the game out with ease to make it 20 out of 20.

After the game, management committee member Sam Gooding presented Grapes with their Division Three winners trophy and mementos for their achievement.

Stonewood Sundays (BFC) who missed out on the runners-up spot to FC Bradford by two points signed off their first-ever league campaign with a 3-0 defeat against fellow newcomers FC Lacock who for the first half of the season looked as if they would be involved in the race for the title.

However five defeats in six matches at the start of the year put paid to their hopes of picking up any silverware.

Kieran Hard’s hat-trick for Lacock earned them their 10th win in 20 games which saw them finish in fifth place in the standings.
