IN WHAT was a rerun of last term's A M Print & Copy-sponsored Knockout Cup Final, second division Corsham Centre Youth once again got the better of Premier Division outfit The Castle FC at Chippenham Town’s Hardenhuish Park.

At times an ill-tempered final, it took a goal in the last minute of the 90 to earn Martin Bradfield’s Centre a 1-0 victory over Tom Perkins' side.

Corsham Centre probably had the better of the opening exchanges with Ben Thomson twice going close to putting his team in front and Jack Fisher almost breaking the deadlock for the Castle.

Midway through the half Castle keeper Matthew Tilley saved well from Josh Bright and on 31 minutes Castle went close after Luke Hopper surged into the area only to be thwarted by a fine stop from keeper Sam Thomson.

Five minutes before half time, Centre were awarded a free kick, and Ben Thomson’s effort looked destined for the net until Tilley tipped his 25-yard drive out for a corner.

Corsham had the first real chance of the second half with Lewis McCarron narrowly missing the target on 52 minutes, other than that Castle and in particular Dan Sloan and Alex Surman in the heart of their defence were coping well with everything the Centre threw at them.

But they were almost undone in the 62nd minutes when Liam Ralph was left unmarked at the far post only to head a Sam Hodsoll cross over the bar.

Centre had the chance to take the lead on 65 minutes, as Joe Unsworth was harshly adjudged to have handled a Lewis McCarron cross which was hit straight at him.

However justice was seen to be done when Ben Thomson struck the post with his spot kick. A few minutes later Thomson was lucky to receive just a yellow card rather than a red for what a reckless challenge on Jamie Lawrence.

Soon after, Castle had their manager Perkins sent from the dugout, but this seemed to spur his team on and they pushed forward looking for a winner.

Time after time they came up a wall of Centre defender's. With time running out Castle’s Rob Mitchell looked as he had been fouled on the edge of the Centre area, no free kick was given and Centre broke up field and the ball was played across the face of goal to the unmarked Josh Bright who make no mistake as he stroked the ball into the empty net to hand Centre the lead.

Castle really should have drawn level in injury time but they missed a chance to square things up.

Castle’s Dan Sloan was then sent off and after the final whistle Doug Dickson was also shown a red card.

Corsham’s winning captain Ben Thomson received the Knockout Cup from sponsor Andy Meaden, but only five Castle players stayed to applaud the winners and pick up their own mementos.
