DIVISION Two leaders, Bremhill View and second-placed Corsham Centre Youth met at Beversbrook on Thursday evening in what was virtually a winner-takes-all clash between the top two sides.

With both teams chasing a league and cup double after respective victories in the WG Parr Trophy and Knockout Cup finals, the match, which was expected to be a closely-fought affair, lived up to expectations as Ben Redford’s Bremhill side clinched the title thanks to a nail biting 2-1 win.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, Bremhill broke the deadlock through Steve Allison and they doubled their advantage courtesy of a first goal for the club for Neurin Jones, who was on hand to turn the ball home following goal-mouth scramble.

Corsham got themselves back in the game with a late penalty from James Lye and although they had a chance to snatch an equaliser in the dying moments, lady luck was on the side of Bremhill who, after their two victories over the Centre this term, will pick up their well-deserved division two winners trophy when they meet Miller Sports B this coming Sunday.

Elsewhere, having secured their second division future with a 3-1 victory over White Horse B at the weekend, Old Road were back in action again on Thursday evening.

Rowdy Cow Rowde were their opponents at Stanley Park and having won the reverse fixture 8-0, Josh Scott’s Rowde side were amongst the goals once again as they ran out 7-0 winners.

Old Road started the game with 10 men and trailed 4-0 at the break, Ollie Thomas turning Bradley Whitbread’s shot into his own goal for the opener.

Jamie Wallen made it 2-0 before Whitbread added number three and Dean Taccuso made it 4-0.

A first ever goal for the club for Jack Fordham took it to 5-0, with a goal apiece from Robbie Whyte and Joe Merritt, making up the seven as Old Road lost another player through injury and finished the game with just nine players.
