IT MAYBE early days, but if the first couple months of the campaign is anything to go by the race to become Shoestrings-chargrill-sponsored Chippenham League Premier Division champions could be one of the closest for many seasons.

With six teams on 12 points things look wide open. AFC Melksham moved up to second place after their 5-1 win at White Horse A.

Josh Robinson’s first half double cancelled out Natti Morgan’s goal for White Horse, James Dark, Jordan Kirk and Adam Challice sealed the win for Mike Rogers side.

Cons and Melksham Cosmos played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. Lewis Ryan opened the scoring for Cons when he turned home Paul Mannings’ cross.

Sean Meer and Marc Scammell put Cosmos on course for their first win of the season in the second half, however, with time running out, Mannings head home a late equaliser for the Cons.

Having won their last three games Goatacre CC would have been hopeful that they may have picked up from after last week’s 4-1 success over the Pack Horse.

However, the villagers were given a reality check by The Castle as they ran out 8-0 winners. Gary Campbell, Martin Robinson and Jamie Walters scored two apiece, while Liam Hill and Alex Surman completed the rout.

The Pack Horse returned to winning ways as they defeated leaders Potterne CFC 4-2.

Mark Nolan put Horse into the lead with a 25-yard chip, before Ben House and Ben Masson gave the table-toppers a 2-1 interval lead.

Ben Pring restored parity for the Horse and Dan Clements handed them the lead for a second time and Craig Fisher added a fourth to put the game to bed.
