IT WAS first against second in Division Two as leaders Lavington Rangers hosted The Grapes United at Northbrook.

Lavington, who had won the reverse fixture 4-1, were hoping that lightning could strike twice but it wasn’t to be as a 4-0 victory for the visitors saw them regain top spot from their hosts by virtue of a better goal difference.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, in which Lavington’s keeper Tom North saved a Nick Ridout spot-kick, it was Grapes who seized the initiative in the second period, Ridout breaking the deadlock when he atoned for his penalty miss.

Stuart Barber doubled the lead and Nigel Hall made it 3-0 before Tony Couch came off the bench and won a penalty for Grapes, which he took himself to wrap up the win.

When Old Road met Corsham Oak back in October, it was the former who took the spoils thanks to a 3-1 win. In the reverse fixture, the tables were turned as Martin Perrett’s Oak side ran out 7-0 winners. Kadir Ayhan scored a first-half double for Corsham, which came either side of Joe Masson’s bullet header.

Jake Marshall added a second-half hat-trick and the scoring was completed by James House, who netted against his former club.

For the second week running, Christian Malford were made to pay for failing to finish in front of goal as they lost 2-1 away to The Mallard.

Chris Pittman gave Malford the lead after 35 minutes when he fired home a rebound after the Mallard keeper had saved from Ashley Fletcher but two early goals for Mallard at the beginning of the second half changed everything.

First, after 53 minutes, Aaron Hall picked up the ball over the halfway line and shrugged off three challenges before firing low into the net for the equaliser.

Then, in the 55th minute, another run, this time from substitute Jason Dawson, gave Mallard their 2-1 win.
