HAVING missed out on the chance to clinch the Division Two title on Thursday evening following their defeat by FC Bradford, James Worlsey’s Melksham-based The Grapes United finally popped open the champagne with a 4-2 victory over Christian Malford.

Stuart Barber and James Ponsford scored two goals apiece for the champions, Ashley Fletcher and Chris Chrome were on target for Malford.

Lavington Rangers bought the curtain down on what has been an excellent season for Pete Drew’s side with an 8-2 home triumph over FC North Wiltshire.

The victory keeps the villagers in second place, leaving Oakhill and FC Lacock who both have three matches remaining as the only teams who can deny them the runners-up spot.

Lavington had the points in the bag by half time after taking a 6-0 lead.

Jamie Hall opened the scoring, Jacob Rogers made it 2-0, Kieran Chivers added number three before a second from Hall took it to 4-0.

Goalkeeper Tom North scored from the penalty spot to give Rangers their fifth of the morning and a second for Rogers made up the half dozen.

Rogers completed his hat-trick to put Rangers 7-0 ahead.

David Biggs pulled a goal back for North Wilts before Lavington’s Pete Drew had a moment to remember

Playing in his last ever game, Drew came off the bench with 20 minutes left and in the 80th minute struck a wonder goal which was his first goal in 25 years.

Biggs did net a second for North Wilts but by then it was already game over and Rangers and in particular Drew were celebrating victory.

An 8-2 triumph for FC Lacock at The Mallard kept alive their slim hopes of stealing the runners-up spot from under the noses of both Oakhill and Lavington Rangers.

Josh Hard took his tally for the season to 25 with four of the eight, Jack Woolsgrove netted twice with a goal each from Ryan Ross and Rory Davis making up the eight.

Adam Foskett replied for a Mallard side who were expecting more from the game especially as they had drawn the reverse fixture 3-3.
