MELKSHAM Town (Sunday) who, as AFC Melksham last season lifted the Premier Division winners' trophy, began their defence of their title in style with a 12-0 triumph over Bath Road.

Mo Santali top scored for the champions with four of the 12, Sean Fordham and Jordan Kirk scored hat-tricks and a double for James Dark made up the dozen.

At this stage of the last season last year Audley FC (formerly Cons FC) pulled off a shock 3-2 victory over The Castle FC.

Ayear on they hosted near-neighbours Somerford FC whe re they were unable to conjure up a similar result as Somerford overturned a half-time deficit to win 3-1.

Craig Garner’s excellent finish gave Audley their lead which was cancelled out by Will Stone who went on to complete a second-half treble and hand Somerford a deserved win in a match that was played in any excellent sporting manner by both teams and refereed well by Trevor Rawlings.

A first-ever outing for Bremhill View in the top flight saw them host last season’s Premier Division runners-up Corsham CC Wildcats and a 4-3 win for Ben Redford’s hosts saw them claim one of the results of the day.

Kieron Gleed, Mark Dolman and a Billy Gleed stunner put Bremhill 3-0 in front before Darrin Moss grabbed a late first-half goal for the Wildcats.

Adam Shipman's early second-half strike for the Wildcats got them back into the game and it was only when Dolman scored his second from the penalty spot on 80 minutes that the points looked safe.

With five minutes remaining Adam Mitchell gave Wildcats hope of nicking a point, but despite constant pressure they were unable to grab a fourth as Bremhill held out to claim all three points.

Over the years Meriton Avenue has been something of a fortress for Corsham Youth (formerly Corsham Centre Youth) and it will need to be again this season as they are likely to face much tougher opponents than they did in White Horse (Sunday) A, who held their own before losing out 4-1.

After a scrappy start to the game, which was dominated by White Horse, the evergreen James Lye scored his first of the game from a corner on 19 minutes.

As the first half progressed Corsham started to find their feet and Lye got his second of the game in the 32nd minute after bundling in a cross.

The second half picked where the first had finished, with Corsham, having plenty of chances, either missing the target completely or finding Lewis Porter in fine form.

A lucky break for White Horse, came on the 71st minute, when Liam Ralph needlessly gave away a penalty which was converted by Nick Mead.

Corsham needed to up their game, and they did just that. James Lye, rolled back the years and produced a sublime finish from 30 yards on 78 minutes for 3-1.

Josh Brain, on his debut, came off the bench and produced a lovely dribble and finish to open his Corsham youth account.

A last-minute attack from White Horse saw Kane Scott hit the bar.
