THE Dursley Arms picked up where they left off last season, Joe Kirkpatrick’s third division title winners taking up all three points from their trip to Christian Malford.

A 5-0 win saw them kick-off their Division Two campaign in fine style and extended their unbeaten run to 21 matches. Leon Greenland bagged himself a hat-trick, Sean Brereton and Jordan Pinder added the others.

A 3-1 victory for FC North Wiltshire at home to Westbury Conservative Club means that the former have not lost of the opening day of the season for the last three years.

Eusablo Titus, making his debut for North Wiltshire, put them in front when his cross-cum-shot caught everyone out.

A second from Titus made it 2-0 in the second half and when Dan Kelly added a third it was as good as game over. Steve Knight did pull a goal back for the Cons’ Club but it was just a consolation.

A new-look FC Pig & Whistle side, who failed to register a single point from their 16 matches last term, visited FC St George looking for a first win in 19 outings, but it never materialised as the hosts cruised to an 8-2 win.

Craig Sheppard with two and singles for Mike Payne and Bradley Edwards made it 4-0 at the break.

Mike McConnell, a penalty for Sheppard to complete his hat-trick and a brace from Reece Collyer completed the eight. Two late goals for Dan Waylan gave the Pig the consolations.

Devizes-based outfit Cavalier could be the team to keep an eye on this season.

Under the guidance of Adam Bewley they picked up maximum points thanks to a 4-1 success at Old Road.

Cavalier’s first goal came after they were awarded a penalty, Bewley’s initial kick was saved but he pounced on the rebound to put the visitors 1-0 up.

Minutes later a great piece of individual skill from Scott Stroud saw him work his way into the box only to see his shot rebound off the post, but again Bewley was on hand to turn the ball home for 2-0.

Shortly after Bewley turned provider, putting Stroud through to hit his first of the season and give his team a 3-0 interval lead.

Bewley made it 4-0 before Billy Clifford scored a twice-taken penalty to give Old Road their consolation.

Last term's third division runners up, Semington FC, got their quest for back-to-back promotions off to a flying start thanks to a 6-0 home triumph over The Mallard.

Semington took the lead early on through Chris Dore and Ricky King doubled the lead after chasing down the keeper and scoring from close range.

Dore made it 3-0 after getting on the end of a deflected shot and just before Bobby Mitchell finished off an excellent flowing move to make it 4-0.

After the break Dore took his personal tally for the morning to four with two well-placed headers to kill off a spirited Mallard side.
