FOR the first time this season the weather played its part, the heavy overnight rain leading to the postponement of nine of the scheduled league and Wiltshire Junior Cup matches.

The only Premier Division clash saw Audley FC take on a Corsham Youth side just week after they suffered a 7-0 loss in the reverse fixture.

With their own Sutton Benger pitch being unavailable, the game was switched to Meriton Avenue for a second week running, and only possible due to the hard work of Tony Jacobs, who marked the pitch twice.

His efforts proved worthwhile for Corsham who claimed a 4-1 win, which moved them to the top of the table.

The game was played in sporting spirit with Audley showing the heart they played with the previous week, and creating a number of chances in the early stages.

However it was Corsham made the break through after some nice build up play, the ball fell to Max Bray, who smashed home for 1-0.

Chances came and went at both ends, with most of Corsham’s being masterminded by the evergreen Ben Moore and ever-improving youngster, Josh Brain.

A goalmouth scramble was saw Connor Wilcox make it 2-0 and with the momentum behind them Corsham Youth added a third before half time thanks to a calm, confident finish from Ed Sibbick.

Audley, who had rattled the bar in the closing stages of the first half, got back in the game through Sam Myles who netted not long after defender Ben Hibberd put his body on the line to keep it at 3-0.

Audley upped the tempo as they looked for a second, but paid the price as Simon Gray scored for the fourth time in the two games with a delightful finish to make it 4-1.

Credit goes to both teams who played the whole game in the right spirit and it was very well refereed by Neville Dennett.
