DIVISION One leaders The Grapes United returned to winning ways after their defeat to Pheasant last weekend.

A 4-2 victory for the Melksham-based side at FC Lacock, which could have been another potential banana skin to their hopes of claiming a third successive title, saw them maintain a five-point lead over their rivals.

Nick Ridout’s penalty gave Grapes the lead, Emilio Menghini added a second prior to Josh Hard scoring for Lacock and Lee Jackson put Grapes 3-1 up at the break.

Adam Stevenson would have got Grapes' nerves rattling when he cut Lacock’s gap to the odd goal but they were settle when Ridout scored from the spot for the second time to wrap up victory.

Lavington Rangers could have been forgiven for having one eye on next Sunday’s WG Parr Final date with Somerford.

However the villagers will have felt they should have done better at home to a Sutton Benger side who they beat 4-0 earlier in the season, but lost the reverse game 4-3.

James Weston and Joe Merriman gave Benger a 2-0 lead, Jacob Rogers halved Lavington’s arrears before a penalty from Weston regained Benger’s two-goal cushion.

Ali Bradley’s fantastic free kick and a second from Rogers looked to have earned Lavington a shared of the spoils, that was until a last-minute effort from Tom Merriman secured victory for Benger.

After beating leaders The Grapes United last weekend, Chippenham-based Pheasant FC gave their chances of finishing top of the table a further boost with a 13-0 victory at Westbury Rangers who, despite having five recognised keepers signed on, had to play Shaun Gardiner between the sticks.

Josh Legg was Rangers' tormentor-in-chief as he scored seven of the 13, Nick Maniford and Richard Hudson scored two apiece with one of Hudson’s coming from the penalty spot. Richie Bolter and Ben Morris added the others.
