PHEASANT FC went into their game with local rivals Sutton Benger in the knowledge that a win would have seen them crowned Division One champions.

But for Del Llewellyn’s side the champagne is on ice for another game at least as Benger defended stoutly to hold their guests to a goalless draw.

The result, coupled with a victory for the Grapes United means they drop down to second place, however just one point behind the leaders with three games still to play it would be a huge surprise if Pheasant didn’t get the points needed to lift the title.

After their 4-2 victory over The Grapes United last weekend, Lavington Rangers picked up where they left off with an emphatic 11-1 thumping of Westbury Rangers.

After Marco Viola’s opener for Westbury on five minutes, it was Lavington who went on the rampage, Ali Bradley levelled matters in the 10th minute and two quick-fire goals from Jacob Rogers put them 3-1 up.

Aaron Chivers netted on the half-hour mark and Ben Jenks' goal on the stroke of half time gave them a 5-1 interval lead.

An own goal saw Westbury fall further behind, a second of game for both Jenks and Bradley took it to 8-1 before Rogers completed his hat-trick.

Pete Drew marked his first appearance since coming out or retirement with the final two goals, his first being a simple tap-in, his second seeing him rifle home from 35 yards to complete the rout.

In what was rumoured to be their last game in the league The Grapes United, who look likely to finish as runners up to Pheasant, kept up the pressure on their rivals as they signed off with a 3-1 triumph at home to Corsham Oak that saw them return to the top of table for the time being.

Emilio Menghini netted a first-half double for Grapes and Gary Higdon added their third after the break. Joe Masson replied.
