NEAR-NEIGHBOURS Somerford and Pheasant locked horns at Stanley Park as Somerford edged a nine-goal thriller 5-4.

Two goals apiece for Mark Dolman and Nick Manifold were not enough for Pheasant as Josh Robinson, and doubles for Matt Spear and Gary Higdon won the game for Somerford.

Calne BFC looked on course for a victory at FC Bradford who they led 2-0 at the break before conceding six unanswered second-half goals.

Darren Holcombe’s penalty and a screamer for debutant Joe Claire had Calne heading in the right direction but Aaron Thornton started the fightback, Mark Maguire levelled matters then put Bradford ahead.

Phil Lewis, Gary Collins and a second for Thornton wrapped up the win.

Melksham Town (Sunday) got their season under way when they welcomed FC Lacock to Oakfields and they were given an almighty scare before sealing a 4-2 win over the top-flight newcomers.

Jordan Kirk gave Melksham the lead from the penalty spot but in first-half injury time Lacock got back on level terms through Luke Clements, who effort went in off the unfortunate Tom Blaxley.

Dan Kirk regained the lead for Melksham but Josh Hard equalised before Kirk and Warren Maidment wrapped up the result for Melksham.
